How on earth do I tighten this toilet seat??

If there are no holes underneath that you can get a box spanner into, then the chrome caps must lift up. Or possible the seat detaches from the fixings so you can turn those? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

You're right - that's the only way it can come off - but it looks like it's going to be a fight!
The fixings go into the seat horizontally, so the seat won't detach. Have got the picture embedded in the original post now, which hopefully helps.

Can't get the chrome disks off. They lift up at the front, but not really at the back where the bits attach to the seat. Feels like the metal attachment posts are on top of the discs.
Maybe it's just brute force to try and pull up the seat?0 -
I can rotate the chrome discs, but they don't reveal anything except for the very edge of the holes that the fixings go into.. Don't understand this - must be a knack to it, surely? Driving me round the bend! (boom! boom!)

The picture above is with the chrome caps swivelled 180 degrees. No fixings to be seen, just the hole the bolt goes into. I can actually get access underneath if I take apart all the boxing that's around the toilet and I may have found a nut under there. If only I could get a grip on it to tighten it!

If it's anything like the Homebase piece of crap we bought in 2010 (it looks very similar), then the loo seat had to be fixed in place prior to plumbing the toilet in. The access for tightening the seat in all concealed under the back of the toilet, and the toilet needs to be unscrewed from the floor and actually unplumbed and slid out and then refitted afterwards. Insane I know.
So it looked nice and sleek without the usual screws hanging down at the back of the toilet under the seat....but design wise it was an epic fail for future maintenance. Mercifully ours has never worked too loose but when it does the whole toilet is going to the tip and being replaced with a more practical model!0 -
I explored further last night. There's a little door in the wood that boxes this whole thing in, which I had investigated a couple of days back, but just saw a pipe. It turns out that if I detach my arm and insert it 180 degrees through the door I can just about touch the fastenings for the seat underneath the pan!

And with the wonders of modern technology, I can see where the bolt is:

I can just about touch it, but tightening it is a non starter. And then there's the other side where there's no such door in the wood. I have managed to get in touch with Rak (the makers) whi say this is their toilet and seat but those are not their fixings (which always fit from the top). So current plan is to hacksaw these fittings off and hopefully get a new set of original fixings and then move on to the million other jobs that need doing! :rotfl:

Yep, looks similar to ours, the fixings being all behind and under the ceramic outer part of the loo so there's no chance of reaching it once it's boxed in no matter what access hatch you put in ;-) Hope you manage to sort it.0
