How on earth do I tighten this toilet seat??

We've just moved house, and the downstairs toilet seat is so loose it's a serious health risk! Trouble is, I can't work out how to remove it and tighten it. There are no bolts under the pan, only access is from the top..

This is the offending article:

Would be really grateful if anyone has any tips on tightening the damn thing before I do myself a mischief!

Thanks,
Al

Damnit. Don't know why, entered the URL to the picture :-(

  • Often with loo seats like that there is a chrome coloured button in the middle of the hinge when the seat is up. Press and hold that and it releases catches and the whole seat lifts off the bolt stubs. The bolt stubs are then screwed in to threaded rubber inserts in the actual pan.

I've seen videos where there's a button. There isn't on this, sadly. Annoyed I can't make my picture show up on the original post. Thought I'd done it properly. I have, however, added the URL to the original post, which should help show what I mean.

It's a Rak Ceramics toilet seat, I know that much.

I think the chrome disc levers up and there is a screw underneath.
  • How frustrating! that's like one of those metal puzzles
  • Check out screws on either sides or underneath. There must be an adjuster there.

I think there's a chrome button somewhere in the middle of the hinge when the seat is up you'll find screws underneath each side.

Tried that last night. The silver caps seem to come up partway, but couldn't reveal any screws. Another attempt today, methinks..

    Thanks,
