Don't buy anything from Curry's ever. I've only ever gone into these places to check out a piece of equipment to see if it's to my liking then bought elsewhere.

Thing is, if nobody bought from them, then they wouldn't be available for you to see if things are to your liking, because they'd have gone bust.

The alternative might be that they suddenly realise that technically-informed and genuinely-helpful customer service with their goods at a fair price is the way to go. They provide this, and find their future is secure.

My local Currys/PCW/Carphone warehuse, is next door to a Maplins store. Maplins staff are helpful, knowlegeable, tech-savvy, courteous and have actually directed me in the past to a less expensive alternative.

I have been ripped off by Currys etc in the past and know of many others who have. These pages are full of similar stories. The staff are sometimes courteous but I have not met any with an ounce of reasonably proficient tech knowledge. I took exception to their advice to one customer in my hearing, because it was actually wrong and possibly dangerous. I was asked to leave, of course.

Maplins looks to be sliding into administration. Currys et al, goes on making sales and profits.

    Welcome to Britain, 2018.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
  • This is our expereince with Currys/ Know How
    Major complaint – CC3758667
    25th September 2018

This is a cover page and headline summary to the 12-page document that details what happened when we tried to buy a 4K TV, cinema sound system and blu-ray player from Currys, Braehead. New information will be found on the last couple of pages.

    1) 3 Samsung TVs, 3 Blue Ray players and a Sound Bar £4738.00 rrp in delivered, and some returned, in one week.
    2) 2 financing contracts completed in one week.
    3) The goods we owned, on one occasion, delivered with no care for the items or the health and safety of the delivery guys.
    4) Delivery guys with no apparent knowledge, or competence, to install, tune and demonstrate the equipment were used delivering in an unmarked van.
    5) One TV was repacked with the legs scrapping against the screen and left open.
    6) Rooms were left with packing materials strewn all over place.
    7) Five return journeys to the store amounted to some six miles each time let alone the time and nuisance value experienced.
    8) At least one Sound Bar was not working even when an expert tried to make it work.
    9) An expert had to be contracted in, by the store, at their cost, to deliver a working system. He visited three times.
    10) Large amounts of emotional stress, strain and disappointment at the failure in the provision of the equipment we had selected especially as it was a birthday gift.
    11) Incompetence, lack of continuity and fulfilment of the reasonable wishes of the customer from the Call Centre and with some staff at the store. There was even one Know-How colleague who couldn’t even open a Word Document!
We are now in the process of dealing directly with Directors of Currys…. fingers crossed..lol

To be fair all I would expect from my PC repairer (unless it was something very simple) would be for them to fix the hardware problem if thete was oneand then reinstall - probably from the manufacturers restore partition if not then just basic Windows system and drivers

I would not expect them to install any application software whatsoever or reinstall my data or anything like that not unless I paid them a couple of Grand for their time that is..

Presumably you're responding to the OP rather than post #16 which necromancied this thread?

Well given that the OP last was on this forum on 20th Feb I'd suggest your post won't be seen by them. ;)
