Currys Appalling customer service

Options
Took my laptop for repair at Currys Chorley on 3rd February, was told that the repair would take 7 days. Went back to the shop on 10th February was told that the laptop would be back 10th February. Nothing happened. Received a text on the 13th February informing me that the laptop had been received at the repair centre. Went to the shop and was told it would be back on 15th . Nothing happened. Rang customer service and was told that the laptop had been incorrectly entered into the system for the wrong shop and had been sat on a shelf at Chorley for a week. They also told me that the repair could have been done at the shop also the laptop was at a local distribution centre where it remained for 3 days. I then got a text telling me that the laptop had arrived at the shop, when I went I was told they had not received it I then lost my temper and was told to leave the shop.i
I have been lied to and mislead throughout this process. In spite of having me have a repair plan I feel that Currys are incompetent, do not have a coherent customer service policy. The only thing they got right was the promised delivery 8 days after it should have been
There is no culture of helping customers in the case of them making an error,
They will not got any of my custom in the future
Does anyone have a similar experience and what are my rights in this position
Thanks Graham

A quick trawl will find many with similar experiences to yours

You have the right to never go there again. That is all

    Mistake 1. buying from Currys.
Mistake 2. Taking out a repair plan.
Mistake 3. Actually believing you would get anything resembling customer service from Currys.
What was it that they were supposed to repair?

I hope you did a backup first, as their usual 'repair' solution to almost any problem is a new hard drive and a clean install. And maybe a new motherboard too, just in case.

Nothing unusual there I work for a large local authority. The standard solution to any software / hardware issue is to take it away for several days, reinstall windows, leave off half of the standard programs.
And they think they have done good job

I used to have an IT business. I used to format-reinstall if it wasn't a hardware error or an easily removed malware as the customer never wanted to pay for hours of diagnostics/virus removal and unless you could provide me with the licenses for the software you had on and were willing to pay for my time to reinstall it then it wasn't getting put back on.

Ultimately you get what you pay for and if all you want to pay is the absolute minimum then that is the service you will receive.

They were once Dixons. That brand got a bad name so they all but retired it. If it didn't crash then it won't yet for a long time to come.

They went from Dixons to DSG and back to Dixons and are now merged with Carphone Warehouse, but, are basically still the same. Internationally they are huge, so hardly likely to go bust. They have no real competition, Bestbuy came over from the US with great intentions, but, despite being better, couldn't compete.

Online is better, we know, but most want to see what they are buying first, especially the big ticket items.

  • Not defending Currys as back in the early 80s my huge Hitachi boombox came back after several weeks scratched & dinged but a few years ago when my daughter was away at Uni her (less than 12 months old) Toshiba laptop went wrong.

She went to her local store with original till number and within a week laptop back with a new motherboard and been fine for almost 6 years, maybe it was a one-off? :)

Don't buy anything from Curry's ever. I've only ever gone into these places to check out a piece of equipment to see if it's to my liking then bought elsewhere.
