Old Style Daily Sunday 18th February 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

I did well today and managed to sleep until 6.00am, I had about 6 hours sleep so feel a lot better right now. I’ve got my first cup of tea and am trying to decide between porridge and scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast. I’m hungry but not sure what I fancy.

It was a glorious day here yesterday, in the afternoon it felt quite warm in the sun. I went for a short walk around the park and it was really nice to feel some sun on my back. There was a lot more people in the park than there has been recently. Perhaps spring is finally on its way.

I went and had a coffee and slice of cake in the new cafe while I was out and ended up sitting chatting to a lovely lady at the next table. She was so interesting and had had a really packed colourful life.

Today my brother and his family are coming over for his birthday tea, so I have got to do the final bits for that. I am looking forward to this, it will be nice to see them all and catch up on the news. My niece is bringing her boyfriend, the first time she has brought a boyfriend to a family celebration so we are all wondering if he is ‘the one’. I met him briefly at New Year and he seemed really nice.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.
  • Morning. It seems dry and quiet outside, no sparkly car or howling gale. Thanks HH, for starting off.

Been busy for the last couple of days, just household stuff, bit of shopping, but the days slip away.

Today, we are planning a day out, it's too easy at this time of year to stay at home all the time, it does you good to get out for a few hours. We are thinking of going to Alnwick and renewing our Alnwick Garden "Friends" cards. In previous years we have tried to go every month to see the changes in the garden, haven't always managed it, but we try.

I made a casserole and some mash last night and they are in the fridge for tonight's meal. For lunch we'll take sandwiches and the good old vacuum flask.

Not much else going on here. I hope everyone has a good day. Hugs to the poorlies, and the sad and worried.
    Take care folks.

Morning everyone and thanks for the thread Holly, hope you enjoy your family meal.

It’s another beautiful start to the day here, it did get warm yesterday afternoon and I even took my coat off when seeing to Lulu!
We also have a family meal planned for today, am meeting my Uncles and various cousins for a Sunday lunch out so really looking forward to a good catch up with everyone. I haven’t seen my Uncles since Mum’s funeral a year ago.
Other than that it will be the usual Sunday ritual of bacon butties and the Archers omnibus.

Enjoy your time at Alnwick SR haven’t been for years but remember enjoying the gardens very much.

Have a good day folks x
  • Good morning all

Thank you Hollyharvey for starting us off.

Another bright and sunny start to the day. Yesterday we sat in the conservatory for the first time this year, it's unheated but it was lovely and warm.
Only 'problem' with the sun is it shows I need to clean the windows.
Not sure what today will bring.

Take care, have a good Sunday
If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.
  • Morning HOLLY and all to follow. I think you must have pinched some of my sleep allocation as I had a worse night than ever. Worrying about everything and everybody. I ended up getting up at stupid o'clock and picked up the book that I have been reading for far too long. I got so engrossed I lost track of time and have very little left to read now.

No plans for today but I must strip the bed when Mr TA vacates it and get that in the washer. It may even get pegged out if today is as nice as yesterday. The back garage door is still stuck fast (it swells in winter) so it means the trek down from the front door and up the side of the garage, which is a bit of a pain! (Or it may just get draped around upstairs!)

Mr TA was only marginally better yesterday so it was another day of soups for him. Will see what he's like when he gets up before deciding on today's menu. I doubt he'd be up to a roast dinner but lots of stuff in the freezer for a quick meal if he feels up to it.

DS is moving in with GF this weekend (well he has almost been living there for a while!) so he has been busy getting rid of all the furniture etc he doesn't need. He has been trying to foist stuff on to us but we have enough clutter as it is! I really hope it works out for him this time. Hopefully it'll be 3rd time lucky! The first time he was far too young and the second was the psycho!

KARCHER well done you! Can I book into your salon? In all my advanced years I have only had 2 hairdressers who actually listened and did as I asked. The first gave up working to have a family and the second moved to Torquay. A long way to go for a trim! I think it must be a qualification these days to ask what the customer wants doing and then do something entirely different!

HOLLY have a lovely birthday tea with your DB and family.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for all in need/want of them. Take care all xxx

    Good morning everyone.

My sleep was deep and full of dreams. It’s not often I remember dreaming, and now I have no idea what they were about.

I woke to find the sky baby pink and blue - probably means rain is coming. The countryside is greening up, snowdrops in full bloom with the shoots of other spring bulbs peeking up. My old hydrangea needs all the old wood pruned back as does the black lace acer tree. My secateurs may get used today.

After that I plan to sit by the stove and read. I hope that everyone has a good day. Family get togethers sound really lovely, I envy those who have them.

    Happy Sunday to all.

    Morning Everyone,

It was misty first thing, but now a bit of sunshine is appearing.

Quiet day today. Must sort out paperwork for tomorrow as I have to go to visit moms council and show them some paperwork.

Hopefully do some of my sewing repairs too.

I also have to write down my 'end of life wishes for my mother' to hand in to care home next week. They like to have everything in writing for when the time comes. They are for my wishes too- eg if I want to be with her at the end etc.

My hubby will cook lunch - nothing fancy - a throw all in the oven kind of lunch.

    Enjoy your Sunday xx

  • Morning all

Thanks for the thread Holly hugs to those in need.

Overcast here today but I've checked the readings on the solar and everything is fine so I'm charging my kindle up.

No real plans here, I may clean my windows yet again but may give up and leave them until the neighbouring boats stop sending smoke signals.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
