Faulty Lenovo Laptop

Afternoon all

I have a problem with a Lenovo Laptop that went out of warranty in November 2017 so I'm kind of stuck.
Its never used online just for updating Windows and only used 5 hours per week at most for Powerpoint presentations and videos.
Last week I had to do a Virus check and had to restart.
Once it restarted all I had was the Lenovo splash screen. No boot up whatsoever.
After looking into the Bios it became evident no Hardware was detected to boot from. It appears what I can only guess the Hard drive is knackered.
I contacted Lenovo explaining my situation and that if I had no choice but to replace the hard drive where do I stand on the Windows operating system?
I got the reply I didn't want to hear
Ok Computers have problems but after only 13 months with minimum use surely this isn't acceptable?

Can I go further with this ?

  • It sounds like the virus check has wiped the disk to me.....

Even if that was the case the hard drive would still be detected

Where did you buy the laptop from?
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

Then you need to go back to them as that is who you have a contract with. However, they may ask for proof that the fault is inherent in nature rather than accidental damage/excessive wear & tear etc.

Did you not make your own free backup of windows when you first turned on the laptop?

Then remind them that its them you have a contract with, them your consumer rights are against and them that could be guilty of a criminal offence in attempting to mislead you about your consumer rights by saying its out of warranty and washing their hands of it.

But if the warranty is finished are they not within their legal rights?

Sounds daft but no. Never had an issue like this before.
On my desktop windows went iffy so I contacted Microsoft and they helped me re-install.
