Heya I'm new to the forum and was looking for any help or if anyone has had similar experience
I have recently had a job offer as a healthcare assistant in a hospital and in the middle of my training for it but still currently working for a care agency as a home carer, on my last training I left my car in a residence only car park of the building and on the passenger seat of my car I stupidly left the care agency's work rota for the week with clients names on them, my name and the care agency i work for (may i add that they are only a list of names, no addresses no date of births anything of that sort only names) unfortunately someone has taken a picture and reported it to the hospital and they also informed me that they had reported it, the following day I phoned up as i was worried about what would happen with the role i had been offered, shortly after i got a phone call back to say that i breached confidentiality and would need to arrange a meeting with the manager to discuss what happened next, but theu wanted to see me on the same day as the next training so I asked if i was to carry on with the training and they said they would have to ask and get back to me, but within the next hour I received a phone call to say that my application was withdrawn and that they would no longer be taking me on and have marked it as breach of confidentiality but informed me that i can reapply in 3 months time, but I wasn't allowed to arrange a meeting to explain my side of the story, i am slightly confused and devastated as I'm worried this will effect my career in future as the documents weren't anything to do with the hospital and they had no confidentiality information on them appart from the names! Also i have spoken to the care agency that the documents did belong to and they aren't taking further action! So if anyone has any advice on what i could do to prevent it having an affect on my future or any advice in general please
Sorry for the long thread !!!128584;

just take it as a lesson learnt. confidentiality breaches can cost the trust a fortune which is why they are so strict. I know how easily its done but unfortunately you were in the wrong place at the wrong time when the crank went nosing through ur windowThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. All it takes is to put it face down.
Or keep it in a plain brown envelope.
Or on a clip board with a plain piece of paper on the top.
Or to be fair not to leave it in the car in the first instance.
It is a pain in the !!!. But if it was your data or name you!!!8217;d want it protected. The fact that the agency you!!!8217;re working for aren!!!8217;t taking it further is odd. And the fact that the hospital have only stopped you applying for three months is a warning but they could have taken it a lot more seriously.
I realise you!!!8217;re saying it was only names. But it was a list of names of probably older people who by the fact need a cater are probably vulnerable. And could therefore be targets for theft for example. Just because the addresses weren!!!8217;t shown doesn!!!8217;t mean some scammer couldn!!!8217;t find them out. Asking at the paper shop for example.
You should treat other people!!!8217;s data as you would your own. And if you!!!8217;d leave your own full name viewable in the car then you need to restock and start to be more careful for your own safety.

Leaving confidential information where others can view or access it would be treated as gross misconduct by most companies. I accept that in this instance it was a simple list of names which might seem trivial but as has been said already somebody could potentially use that as a basis for a scam, or worse.0

Or something as simple as a friend/relative/acquaintance of one of the people on your list being the one to walk by and seeing the name, if they hadn't wanted people to know their situation.0 -
leaving information of care recipients on public display is a significant breach of judgement and confidentiality.0

Consider yourself lucky that the care agency aren't taking any action against you and also that you made your mistake before you started the new job. Had you done this whilst in their employment, I suspect you'd have been disciplined and probably sacked - and if this has happened, you'd have found yourself having to explain a short stint with the organisation..
I don't think this should have any impact on your CV, other than a gap in employment - and this shouldn't be too much of an issue. However, I wouldn't bother applying to the same organisation again in 3 months' time - I'd say you have no chance whatsoever of being offered again.0 -
I fully understand where you are coming from and i take full responsibility for my actions and stupidity.
I have one person saying that i can try again in 3 months time and another saying it will be on my record for life and will never be employed by them again, i feel that is very extreme as even criminals get second chance in life.
And with saying that the names could be used for fraudulent stuff of break ins ect then what about when you are admitted to a ward and your full name is above the bed? Or when you go to the doctor and they display your full name when being called into the room? Or even when you look people up in the yellow pages? I do understand that I've made a mistake, but surely it shouldn't affect me my whole life !!!128533;0 -
Whilst I see where you're coming from to some degree, I see no point whatsoever in you trying to challenge this, which it sounds like you want to do - so don't worry about whether or not you're permitted to re-apply in 3 months' time as I very much doubt that they'll even consider your application if you do.
Can you not apply for similar roles in other organisations?0 -
It's not that I'm trying to challenge it, I'm just trying to see if it is possible to keep a record of such for life, as i am only young (in my 20s) should I really be disciplined for life for a mistake, everyone makes mistakes and learn from them and I definitely have learned but should i really be penalised for life about it0

I would have thought that the only record kept would be at the company who withdrew their offer so I guess it depends on whether you were actually on their records as an employee. Even if you were, it may be that if they are asked for a reference, they'll simply state that you were on their training programme for a while but didn't actually start the job with them - without giving any further detail...
As with many queries on here, you probably need to seek specialist advice to be sure.0
