Halifax switch chasing money that was paid

  • This is resolved.
For anyone reading this because they have a similar situation, this is what happened.

We switched. During the switch some transactions took the account into overdraft. The account closed immediately following switch and the overdraft amount became due.
We were contacted by Halifax and during that contact I have taken the information to pay it and completed the payment (this is last year and so a bit vague).
Following this we had telephone calls which were very similar to scam calls. Saying they were Haifax but couldn't understand me and English was quite poor. At first I would take the calls and I would explain the amount was paid and could they just check their records etc. What also made me suspicious of the calls was that when I would explain the amount was paid, they did not check or talk to me about a possible error, they would hang up. I began to think the calls were scams and started to screen them.

Anyway cutting this short the amount WAS due. Following my payment of it, it came back into our account (unnoticed). Halifax gave me the incorrect information to make the payment.

I am very happy that Halifax have done what they can to get to the bottom of it. They listened to calls etc and will remove any default as well as compensate. For our part, if we had paid attention for an amount coming back in, we would have noticed and resolved this sooner. For Halifax's part, if their call handlers had looked into what I was saying and not just hung up, this would be resolved sooner.

I hope this helps anyone. Just make sure you switch when you have the time to read everything and keep an eye on it.
