  • If you read the original post it clearly states it was over the phone.
I’m not on here to be interrogated, it is what it is.

I'm sorry but none of this is clear at all. Your original post stated that you were looking for advice, it is difficult to offer any without knowing the facts.
  • I personally think this is not a difficult thread to understand but ........

Switch happened from Halifax to Santander. Halifax account closes. An overdraft balance remained and I receive a call to pay it. I pay it by card from my Santander. Halifax posts it to the wrong place, it bounces back in to my Santander. I don!!!8217;t notice.
It!!!8217;s not me paying the funds to the wrong place, I just gave the payment.
Amount continues to get chased but i thought it was paid as I didn!!!8217;t notice it came back in. Halifax also did not check this on the many occasions I said I had paid it.
It is not rocket science, nor a big problem.
It!!!8217;s also resolved and so I wouldn!!!8217;t spend any more time analysing it.

You never made it clear to anyone in your earlier threads that you paid it over the telephone to a Halifax employee. Your attitude towards a member who is trying to help you stinks. No one is trying to interrogate you, just get the facts straight.
Go and have a cup of green tea, it might chill you out a bit.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

Presumably there were insufficient funds in your sole account to settle the joint debt? Otherwise Halifax would have exercised their right to set off the debt by raiding your sole account for the value, rather than selling the debt on.

Then again, it must have been a very small debt because if it were anything more, surely one or both of you would have noticed a larger than expected balance in the new Santander joint account.
  • Interestingly I have several other Halifax accounts with sufficient funds which were not considered for transfer by them. Yes, the amount was small and did go unnoticed coming back in the account.
I haven’t switched before and we also had a extremely significant event happen in our lives at the time of this, checking my bank account for an amount coming back in wasn’t up there in priorities.
I have spoken to someone this happened to (making a payment for a remaining overdraft balance of a closed switched account but it being posted in the wrong place to then just bounce back) and the bank apologised, set the credit score straight and took the payment again, posting it in the correct place to clear the balance. I’m happy if Halifax do that. Seems reasonable.
  • I used to use his forum a lot many many years ago. This login is a new one. I chose to speak on this forum because of how helpful it was.
I have to say, it has changed a lot. Yes my attitude stinks but do you know why.... the quality of people’s opinions are so laced with ivory tower and criticisms that it isn’t helpful.
So what if I wasn’t clear. So what if I am not experienced at writing on here like some of you, that is no excuse for writing such accusatory messages.
I really won’t bother if people just come on here to pick holes in people’s post, make out they not being truthful etc etc.
I have nothing to hide. I know Halifax made a mistake and i’ll sort it tomorrow. To make out I am at some sort of fault just because my post is inexperienced is just ridiculous.
I’ll be leaving it there. Probably won’t consider this site again.
Thank you to those who had constructive advice and helped me get to the problem.

The thing that surprised me most about this thread, was that Santander accepted a switch of an overdrawn account - as a non expert I would have thought that a flag should have been raised blocking the switch.

From what I understand of the C.A.S.S if you have an overdraft or are overdrawn with Bank X you may be able to open an overdraft with Bank Y (subject to criteria) but failing that you have to make your own arrangements to repay the debt with Bank X.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.
  • Im not experienced at this but all I can offer is that the account was not overdrawn/in overdraft but during the switch it went into the overdraft by a small amount. I didn’t know and then had the bank telephone calls. I went to look online but the account had disappeared from the online banking, just my other accounts showing. I asked Halifax for a closing statement/letter before I paid but all of this was like pulling teeth, it took weeks. I stupidly just accepted that it was part of the process and so finally made a payment to the Halifax employee over the phone.
I found the letter from Halifax this morning telling me the amount and it says on the letter the many ways I could pay it and it’s written that all methods will go to the old account. Confused.
I’m hoping the complaints depart will explain when they pick it up.
    Thank you
