Flybe Route Cancellation

I was due to be flying from Kirkwall to Aberdeen on 13th April, returning 17th April with Flybe, but a couple of weeks ago they announced they are cancelling the route from beginning of March. I have been offered alternative flights with Loganair which is fine, but as I had onward flights to Gatwick RTN booked with Easyjet, I have had to amend my return flight to Aberdeen and factor in an overnight stay to be able to get home the same time as the original booking (I live on a remote Orkney island and am constrained by ferry times). Flybe are refusing to pay the overnight stay I am now going to incur as well as the additional flight change costs with Easyjet as I do not have an onward flight to Gatwick with them. They don't acutally fly from anywhere in Scotland to Gatwick! Should they be covering this additional cost or am I fighting a losing battle here?

Airlines are not liable for consequential losses.
If you'd had onward bookings to London with flybe booked on the same ticket then they would be liable, but as they were separate arrangements made yourself then they are not. (As you say they don't fly to Gatwick - but that doesn't change it).
You could maybe try your travel insurance, they may cover it, although any excess may not make it worthwhile.0 -
I've just had a similar cancellation from Icelandair. According to caa the airline only has to compensate for changes within 2 weeks of travel. I thought I had consequential loss on my premier LV travel insurance but apparently that only covers for cancellation and delays within 24 hours of travel. I am cautious of accepting an alternative flight incase they do the same thing again. Does anybody know of an insurance company that will cover additional costs of cancellation prior to travel?0

Icelandair have cancelled Birmingham, Aberdeen and Belfast.. what alternatives have they offered?0 -
They have offered Glasgow or Dublin0

They’ve been operating from Glasgow for years so I would say that’s a safe bet. Also Dublin is a new route launch so probably quite safe now - summer schedules start soon so the chances of major changes now are quite slim.
Probably done you a favour anyway - it would have been a long slog to Keflavik in a Dash 8 from ABZ/BFS. Much better on a jet.0 -
If you'd booked a through ticket to gatwaick with flybe you they would be liable but as you've booked separate tickets with flybe/ easyjet. flybe are only responsible to get you to Aberdeen and back - everything else is tough !!!!The futures bright the future is Ginger0
