Given you seem to be shocked/disgraced/upset/offended in every post maybe it's time to give t'interweb a break for lent and live in real life :rotfl:

I do live in the real life. This place should be helpful, not judgemental.

    Good afternoon.

I would have said that advising someone that building up a contingency fund for household or appliance repairs is helpful advice.

The OP asked for advice about the ARGOS. She did not come on here for a telling off about her bank balance. That is what she got.

The irony you seem to be overlooking is that you yourself haven't posted anything helpful, only judgemental.

Also, care to explain where I judged the OP and didn't provide helpful advice? I mean you did say "you all should be ashamed" so I'm assuming I'm included in that given my post was right above that one of yours.

I'm so glad a random stranger on the internet knows my intentions better than I do myself.

No they didn't. OP didn't mention argos.

You know the saying "give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime".

Telling them how to solve this specific issue will help them now. But telling them how to solve the root cause of the issue will stop them from having a similar problem in the future.

If you stick to just giving advice and opinions about the specific subject someone asks about then they won't benefit from other advice for problems they hadn't considered.

Some are more random than others
The next day my bank informed me that the £90 had been devoted and a further £290 debit was pending.
So the retailer took the correct £90 from the debit card and then a further £290 as a duplicate transaction? Then didn't correct it promptly enough? Definitely, they should be covering any overdraft/penalty fees due to their error and offering something as goodwill.
I need to think of something new here...

That is fine and I agree. But this is not a benefit office, school or social services department. Solving the issue in hand is best.

    My experience is:
"Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer for a day"

So because no one else has posted anything helpful and I pick up on this, you are digging me up for not posting anything helpful? Is that right?

Whilst I did say "you all" I know what that meant, and you know what that meant, so don't ask me to explain.

If I am a random stranger on the internet. Then you are too. We are all random strangers, so should we close down every forum because we are all random strangers? Therefore, what is the point of a forum?

Yes I do know what it means (in southern USA slang and when given its proper meaning in language), which is why I assumed I was included. Which is surprising given I made it clear in my post that I wasn't judging the OP for it and that I had learned from my own mistakes.

And yes I am a random stranger on the internet - but not one who proclaims your intentions are the opposite of what you actually stated them to be. Which was my point - nothing at all to do with whether to post or not.
