Or she could cancel the couple of small holidays or downgrade the wedding. Priorities, and all that.
Exactly. What is wrong with people? Don't have a wedding or go on holiday until you have a few thousand pounds saved up for emergencies.
Don't bail her out again or she will never learn. It is not as if you haven't bailed her out before. I think you have done more than enough.0 -
Cor blimy.... crazy how people think, ill share everything but not my money nice“People are caught up in an egotistic artificial rat race to display a false image to society. We want the biggest house, fanciest car, and we don't mind paying the sky high mortgage to put up that show. We sacrifice our biggest assets our health and time, We feel happy when we see people look up to us and see how successful we are”

I would say to get a little fiesta. One that is around 10 years old and had the cam belt changed. A petrol would be better.
You can get a decent little Zetec 5 door from about 2006 with decent mileage 60-80k for under £1600.
Like a perfect first car. Cheap and simple to fix most things in comparison to other brands of vehicle.
The Duratec engine is a really good choice, 1.4 or 1.25. There is barely any difference between them.

firstly what make and model of car has she got now ? As stated prior a few bent valves and even got away with it if its a non interference engine. If its a diesil it will be bust end of. I like the previous posters comment it only cost me 350 because it bust before i had new one fitted lol
I could even make an argument for it being less than £350. Was booked in for cam belt at £400, belt broke so engine was rebuilt which required replacement of the oil, coolant, new spark plugs so almost a full major service, that's another £150 to £200. The money side was not the issue it was the inconvenience of the timing of not having the car for a week.0 -

My advice is to find something cheaper to run.
I don't have any suggestions about the car.0 -
A fusion is pretty much the same car as a Fiesta, but less desirable shape and costs less.
In older cars bigger and not regarded as desirable is sometimes cheaper than small cars as small cars hold their value better. My last banger was a Primera which gave me two years and about £12000 miles and then I got almost as much as I paid for it.
Banger shopping needs some understanding of cars and time to invest in it though. It took a couple of months and about a dozen viewings to find it.
You'll get a lease cheaply - I've seen small cars around the £100 per month level. It has to go back absolutely pristine though.0 -
Another in agreement with getting priorities right, cancel the holidays, have a cheaper wedding.0
