Old Style Daily Friday 16th February 2018

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone :hello:

It sounds like you had a nice Valentine day meal dumpling. It was good to read that you coped and had some relaxing time alone with Steve.

TA I was sorry to read that you have been awake worrying, but it is understandable. The kitchen sounds like it will be lovely, I'm getting jealous already :).

I hope you found the fish and chip van Hester. I have been craving chippy fish and chips for a couple of weeks now, I don’t know why.

JackieO I love Stratford-upon-Avon, I’m sure you will have a great time, and it is something to look forward to. It sounds like you and your friend have a really good relationship.

Nelski your book club sounds great. It is really nice the way you have all come together and turned into a group of friends who enjoy doing other things together as well.

Maddiemay I hope the funeral goes as well as these things can.

Karcher if you are reading along I hope that you are ok. I know that you have been very down and were having some problems at work.

Tru I hope that you are ok and reading along as well, and that work on the spare room is coming along and that the beech hut theme is starting to come together.

As is becoming the habit, I have been wide awake since 4.00 am, but at least I have had five hours sleep (which is more than many of you members of the “wide awake club” get).

I’ve just finished a book I was reading and don’t feel like starting another one, so I’m going to make some hot cross buns if I can find the yeast, and while the oven is on I’ll make some soda bread as well. As I’m in a baking mood, I may even make an apple cake as I’ve got quite a few apples that need using up. I’ll just have to have a look and make sure this will all fit into the freezers first.

I had a nice lunch out with my friend yesterday but back to reality today and cooking my own meal. I made a tikka marinade yesterday and put some chicken pieces in it and will make a curry and some flatbread to go with it for dinner.

I’ve got half of the bedding in the washing machine at minute (luckily it doesn’t disturb the neighbours) and will probably end up having to put that in the dryer. I also have a towel load to put in as well.

Have a good Friday everyone whatever you are doing
  • Morning all and thank you for starting us off Hollyharvey. I too was up at 4 and now the towels are going round in the machine. Our local forecast is for a dry day so they can go outside, hopefully.

I need to blitz the bathroom and scrub the kitchen surfaces then it is just a small Friday Tidy. I might make a loaf.

I came home in almost full daylight yesterday and it won't be long now until I go to work and come back in the light. I have daffodils growing well in a big container outside and some indoors too, those are meant to be the tiny sort. And last year I was given a beautiful calla lily in a pot. When the leaves died away, I kept it to see if the bulbs might sprout and they are coming up now, slowly but surely. Last year, my orchid grew a new flower spike and I'm hoping that might happen again.

I hope everyone has a good day

    Morning All

Nice to hear of spring flowers popping up, certainly doesn't look seem like spring is on it's way here, so cold and wet, it was sleeting last night about 9pm.

Dropped my laptop last night, bits of plastic everywhere but it seems to be working ok thank goodness.

Speky - I like to give my undies, towels, etc a hotter wash than other things.
One pupil Gers? Hope they aren't troublesome!

Got lots of little bits done yesterday at work, that cleared a lot of pieces of paper from my desk, even managed to tidy a cupboard and get lots of cardboard boxes into the recycling. If only I could manage that at home!

Happy Friday everyone, take care. Xx
  • Morning folks and thanks for the start HOLLY. I had a slightly better night last night and managed about 6 hours sleep before waking at 5.00.

I don't know where it came from but I had a sudden burst of energy yesterday! After my onslaught on all the outgrown toys/books/games in youngest 2 DGD's bedroom, I decided to give it a spring clean. Took the curtains down to wash, stripped the beds and even moved them to vacuum underneath!! Then moved on to the eldest DGD's bedroom - at 13 there are no toys in there and she brings her own choice of books with her! But I decided to change it round and that got a spring clean too! Plus new bedding which has been stashed away since spotted in a sale. At 13 she thinks she is too old for pink and flowery so this is stripy!

So today I have a head start on the Friday Tidy with 2 less bedrooms to vac!

The chaos outside with the new gas pipe laying is finished at last! There are still barricades around all the holes and ditches but apparently someone else follows on to do that! And the 5 hours the gas was off yesterday turned in to 8 hours!!! We finally got it back on at 4.30 and by then it was starting to feel decidedly cold so both ch and fire went on till I thawed out!

No thoughts on meals for today I will have a freezer dive shortly. No doubt the usual soup and sarnie for lunch! Meanwhile time for another coffee!

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for all who want/need them. I too hope KARCHER is ok, it;s a while since we heard from her. TRU are you busy reclining in your deckchair? Take care all xx

    Morning everyone

Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light cold and frosty here.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, both boys still in their pits, will wake DS2 as he wants to go to the gym, he'll walk there from the SM once he's helped me with the shopping.

Dinner last night was HM chicken, bacon and mushroom pie, mash, peas and gravy - clean plates all round, then LO apple crumble with custard for those that wanted some. Tonight I'm not sure what we'll be having but will organise it at the SM.

I wasn't overly productive yesterday and DS2 and I didn't do our little trip out as where we wanted to go wasn't open, good job I double checked before we left! I'm in the process of arranging for another time. I did get some washing done and a couple of jobs done on the pc and telephone calls made also. Had a bit of good news also but I'm waiting for it to be confirmed.

Lurgy is still hanging around but instead of feeling full of cold and really headachy it's seems to be lifting, and so it should as I've been rough since last Friday. I'm back to work on Monday and hoping I'll be nearly back to normal by then. I haven't visited mum and dad all week as didn't want to give them the lurgy but all seems ok there.

I did manage to write a food shopping list yesterday and had a look at what I've got in the freezers/store cupboard, I need to use up some supplies not just keep buying new - that's the mission for today's shopping trip - stick to the list!

DS1 made soup for yesterday's lunch - it was delicious and there's enough for his and DS2's lunch today - I'll get them a couple of nice rolls each to go with it.

    Keep safe and well x

Nice bright day here for a change, I went out to get logs in last night from the shed and the grass is like walking on a sponge everything is so water logged hope we have a few dry days now.

Off to work for me but its Friday :j wine and takeaway tonight :D I love Friday nights !

Sitting here in the lounge I can see a heron on a flat roof about three houses up, ( I can just see the top of the roof) he sits there most mornings and looks over a pond that the people have in their garden looking for breakfast I think !!

Going to change the taps on the bath and hand wash sink in the bathroom tomorrow for the new lever ones as I am really struggling to turn them on and off, so looking forward to having the new ones on.

Right better get on have good days all xx

    Good Day to you all!

Working from home again, plus it's last day of half term, so will see my boys a bit. Resisting the pressure / persuasion of going out for lunch! Expensive prospect these days with both DS's on adult menus! Any road, they were out yesterday with Grandpa and. Treated to lunch!

So - frugal break & sandwich lunch – minimising office elec heater with furry boots and a throw on the chair. Must hoover office, it looks like a horse has been living in it!

Spreadsheets interspersed with composting and clearing ivy!

Hope everyone is well & positive this Friday!

    Morning Everyone,

Nice and Sunny outside - but cold as well.

Yesterday spent a good few hours in the coffee shop with my friend. It is lovely to have a catch up and not to think about housework and anything else for a few hours.

Today, last day at work for a week as it is half term next week. I shall come home for an hour, then off to visit my mom for an hour and I shall be attending the family meeting at the nursing home .
These are only every 3 months and the staff update everyone on what is happening in the home.

Tea tonight will be pie and chips for me - brought in by hubby, as I will not get in until 6.30'sh from meeting.

Have a good day everyone xx

Morning everyone and thanks for the thread Holly.

Bright and sunny here in East Anglia but quite a thick frost. Another day and another BT engineer coming, we will be exchanging Crimbo cards soon :rotfl:
As it’s such a lovely morning going over to the yard to get Lulu out and about, then aim to take little Tilly for a long walk across the racecourse.
Tea is lasagne, managed to pick up some good bargains in the shop yesterday including pork mince so will use that instead of beef for a change.
Datchet given what the lovely Lulu leaves in her stable you seriously wouldn’t want it in your office :D

Have a great Friday folks x
