Investing was rather forced on me/us by circumstances.

We sold our business in 2007, a few years after my wife had been diagnosed with Primary Progressive MS and was finding it impossible to continue working.

We were faced with funding care for her at home while I carried on working, or selling the business so that I could look after her. We chose the latter.

The sale of the business meant we had enough income to live on (just) with prevailing interest rates for cash, plus an amount invested via our bank.

Then the financial crisis struck, interest rates plunged and our investments took a big hit.

Something had to be done to avert disaster. We had really struggled financially for several years after starting in business, and there was no way we were going to allow ourselves to confront that again, on top of everything else.

So I/we took it all back 'in-house' (that suits us anyway - we prefer not to pay people to do something we can do ourselves, and we are very self-reliant), researched, learned, researched more, learned more... and turned it all around, though we are never complacent.

Now, it's a fulltime interest and, like others here, I do enjoy a spreadsheet!

I even didn`t know where is that country is.

That in itself is a reason not to invest.
