Good morning all.
It was surprisingly light at 7am, things are improving. Mind you, the wind is still battering the house. Yesterday was just atrocious, never ending rain. A lot of roads are flooded as the ditches can’t cope, the river is full and the tide is high. Armbands at the ready!
Yesterday my time in Oban was useful. I may end up with just one student and she wasn’t there. That meant I could actually finish off my paperwork left over from semester one, talk to a couple of colleagues and feel very satisfied with myself. It’s not often I feel that.
This morning I've got to sit through a two hour virtual meeting before I can drive to DM”s. She’s been laid up with a gastric bug this week so needs some extra TLC.
Today is the 20th ‘birthday’ of the fabulous Angel of the North. It was put in place on 15 February 1998 to very mixed responses. I remember watching the huge torso trundle up the A1 on a very long and big low loader. I used to take all my visitors to see it.
TA - new kitchen sounds splendid. I hope you can shake off your worries.
Dumpling - what a lovely man your Steve sounds.
Right, I suppose I should get moving. I hope everyone is doing well or getting better.
Happy Thursday.0 -
Good morning chums and a slightly warmer if damp day here in Kent .DD and I took the boys to Hastings yesterday and we had a wander along the front and it was absolutely freezing, but it blew the cobwebs away. When we got home DD insisted I stay to dinner as we had stuff to eat up as her f/freezer was on the blink and a new one is being delivered this morning so it was a case of eat up what we could rather than throw it out so the boys had a couple of garlic chicken breasts each with roast spuds and veg and DD ,son-in-law and I all used up a pack of lamb chops and absolutely delicious they were as well So last nights meal that I had got out of the freezer will do for tonight ,its a HM lasagne so just a quick whizz in the m'wave tonight and not a great deal of cooking needed
My friend phoned to say she had found us a cottage for our 'dunno-where-we-are-going' break.
Its a bit later this year as her twin grandchildren have gone down with chicken pox and she is staying around to help look after them as her DD is a single Mum and appreciates the help.
Her other break with her OH has been put on hold as well for a few weeks.
But apparently our holiday it will be in a cottage a couple of miles south of Stratford-upon-Avon,so a nice new area of England to explore
Its a great way to have a holiday ,she opens a map shuts her eyes and waves a finger over the map and where it lands is where we usually go.Her OH travels quite a bit with his job so they have to fit their holidays around his work and we fit our break around when he is away.We have been having this break from our respective grandchildren and families for around 14 years now and as we have the same interests its usually pretty good I have known her for well over 45 years and we get on very well.we both like books ,stately homes ,history and CS browsingLast year we went to Manchester and had a great time. The year before Staffordshire .This country is such an interesting place to explore and just to get out and have a good look around and talking to the local is such a nice way to have a break .we both are also interested in nattering and meeting folk which helps no end
:) So we are booked up in a nice cottage in Clifford Chambers which has a population of about 200,I daresay will will get to have a natter to a few of them when we get there
.Plus its not a million miles from Birmingham and her OH comes from that area so she knows where we can go for a good wander
.I am looking forward to Warwick Castle as well.
Right today I am looking after my DGS and will have to supervise the new f/freezer coming this morning. Luckily my son-in-law has paid for the old one to be removed at the same time .
I hope everyone has a good day and keeps warm and dry if you can
Cheers chums JackieO xxx0 -
Following on from my earlier thread, I have just had a gasman knocking at the door to tell us our gas is going off now! I asked him why we haven't had the garden dug up like everyone else and he said the pipe has already been changed so no need to do again! It must date back to when we built the garage and our meter was re-positioned! The house is snug at the moment but after 5 hours of no heating it might be a different story! xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

Morning one and all,
A slightly rushed but productive night yesterday saw me make dinner, play football, do the ironing and tidy up in a short period of time. Slept the whole way through with only 1 awakening after dreaming about an ex!!
Anyway. Today should be less frantic. I might sty a bit later in work, just to get ahead of things. I'll write a list of things I plan on doing both in work and when I get home.
Chicken with cheese, jalapenos and wrapped in bacon with veg for dinner tonight. And old favourite and dead easy to make.
HH - We all have those moments.
Dumpling - Glad you had a nice night yesterday and it wasn't too stressful for you.
Camelot - Wait, a white wash takes longer? Forgive me if I'm being silly, but in my naivety of only moving out 10 months ago, I use the same programme for my whites and my darks. Should I put them on something different?
Jackie - Is that seriously their method for picking a holiday? Very brave.
TA - Great news!0 -
Morning everyone and thanks for the thread Dumpling, so glad you enjoyed your meal out, time for just the two of you x
Dry and reasonably bright here, the wind and rain battered the house yesterday and I hardly went out the door. Today will be different as food shopping this morning followed by a visit to see Lulu, then off into Cambridge later for a haircut. Not sure about food for later, will see what inspires me when I'm shopping. Have to say the meal deal from Mr Sparks was v tasty, made an effort with candles, crystal and linen napkins at the dining room table and we both said how nice it was.
TA the kitchen sounds smashing and will be worth the hassle am sure.
Enjoy your lunch out Holly.
Have a good day folks x0 -
Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.
A much better night thank goodness, was not looking forward to having to drive to loughborough feeling like something the cat brought in and forgot!!
Bin day so OH has just taken the bags out. He is still driving me mad over his medication, I am going to speak to the Dr about him when I go next Monday.
Its a bright morning, towels in the washer, will put them out for a blow, give the dryer a bit of a rest.
Now a grouse.......3 months ago SSE put our DD down to £31 a month, the next month they took £40, so a phone call....last month fine, this month they have taken £40 again Grrrrrrrr. I am not going to phone them, will wait and see what happens next month. Our contact is due to run out in April, so I will be looking round for a new supplier, they can put their tariff where the sun don't shine!! ts a shame because they have the best customer service when you look at the comparison sites, but obviously they are slipping.
Specky I wash my whites, towels and bed linen at 60c. Coloureds at 40c. Coloureds do not need to be washed in such hot water, mind you if its football shirts etc you need to soak them first. Washing coloureds in hot water can make the dye run.....you can end up with funny coloured washing.0 -
Morning all
Dolly walked with her chum and is now snoozing in her bed . I need to pick up some demi johns from a facebook seller and a pool from Tes*o i know not really the weather yet but it was an 8ft one for £10 and triple points from there so lets hope for a hot one this year
I need to fill in Ds forms for his interview tomorrow and he needs to go get a passport photo I think i will get mine done as well as my passport is up for renewal in October .
Right have a great day whatever you are up to x0 -
Morning everyone
Had a nice lunch out with my mam, dad and sister in law yesterday...did some some shopping and went to the dentist. Didn't think I was actually getting anything done....but ended up with a filling and a clean and he's decided to leave my 7 remaining teeth for 6 monthly check-ups, unless anything goes drastically wrong! Cost me £56 which definitely wasn't in this week's budget!
The main oven in my cooker stopped working on Tuesday night, so I phoned yesterday and was very surprised an engineer could come today! My time was 9.35 till 1.35, he rang at about 20 to 8 for directions and was here by 9. It was the element so that's fixed now...luckily I have a coverplan for it. Tesco delivery has also been so that's put away.
I'm waiting for the delivery of a new laptop for my dad. I couldn't sort his old one so ordered him a refurbished one from Tesco. He wanted a 17 inch screen, which was going to cost about £500 new, so went for this one which was £280. I'll set it up for him and put the websites on that he uses before I take it down to him. A DPD van just drove past my window so I thought it was coming here, but no it drove past again the opposite way a few minutes later.
Right better get on with a few jobs. Hope everyone has a good day0 -
Morning all
What a lovely daymay even put some washing out for a blow but the grass is still soaked through so would need my wellies on
Had a busy week so far both socially and work wise but today is more chilled so will attack the downstairs. Planning on another mammoth declutter this weekend upstairs including the room of doom aka the office. dont know why I call it the office now as I never go up there to work...it has a huge table and an ancient computer which I may just need to bin but at the very least I need to clear the floorspace its become a dumping ground and i need to to rethink what to use it for.
Bookclub was lots of fun on Monday goodness knows how much prosecco we got through but my head said it was a lot the next day:o We are all heading off for a spa weekend soon and Monday we were sorting the dates...trying to get a mutually acceptable date for 10 busy women is like herding cats but we got there eventually
Last night I had liver bacon and onion casserole which was just gorgeous...near enough 35 years since I had to endure mothers grey lumps of liver with accompanying white tubes....yuk and put me off it until last night and I realised it wasn't the livers fault it was my mothers awful cookingAnyway it is now on the menu and at 99p for the 500g pack it was a real bargain.Had some pancakes to follow which weren't as successful I think my non stick pan is no longer non stick.
Tonight will be something from the freezer haven't decided what yet. Have a great day all whatever your plans :A0 -
I have completed my weekly gym session and now sitting here trying not to go to sleep, it really takes it out of me although it is weights and stretches not cardio, definitely getting some strength back into my legs and arms so it is worth it.
OH feeling a lot better this morning, sun shining here and much warmer, so he is cleaning the car, we have a funeral to go to tomorrow and it is bound to get a bit dirty on the journey, but he will feel better knowing that it started off clean. Funeral is of elderly relation of OH and due to her age and the fact that family members and peer group have already died, also close family illness I think that there might only be 5 people attending:( (I hope that we are not called upon to sing:eek:)
Dumpling thanks for starting us off, pleased you and Steve had a nice evening, hopefully you will get to find more outings less of an ordeal, you have done so well in other areas already. TA - new kitchen sounds exciting, I am sure it will be worth the upheaval.
Take care all.The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0
