Old Style Daily Thursday 15th February

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

    Thanks for the thread dumpling.

I think I’m going to have one of those days. I just went to do myself some scrambled eggs, I’ve been awake since 4.00 am as usual and really hungry, and discovered that the box of eggs in the fridge is empty. I must have used the last one and put the empty box back! I think I must have had senior moment when I did that.

It is a friend’s birthday today so I am meeting her later for a coffee and if she hasn’t arranged to go out to eat tonight I will treat her to lunch in town somewhere. She has been having a difficult time lately and has been a good friend to me recently, so it will be good to do something for her.

It is also my brother’s birthday this weekend, and he is coming over for tea on Sunday. Unfortunately my sister in law is rather annoyed with my nephew at the moment. He isn’t coming home from university for his dad’s birthday. My brother doesn’t seem to mind, and says that he understands that now he is away from home he won’t be about for every event. I think my sister in law just wanted to see him and is disappointed that she won’t see him until Easter now. Hopefully they will sort it out.

Right, I’m going to go and find something other than eggs for breakfast.

I hope that those who are unwell are starting to recover now.

Have a good Thursday everyone whatever you are doing.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a much milder morning here today. The grandchildren are being dropped off in a little while so I am just enjoying the peace and quiet for a bit :). Steve has just left for work and the girls are fast asleep. I have a small doggy asleep on my foot and the other one is lying behind me, chewing up one of his toys.

Steve took me out last night for a Valentine's meal at our local hotel. The food was amazing and even though I was very anxious about going out, it was a nice couple of hours away from the girls and a chance for us to just spend a bit of time with each other. He wants to make it a more regular thing which is a bit alarming for me but it will be nice to try out different restaurants.

I will be making lamb kebabs for dinner tonight so I will crack on and marinate the meat before the grandkids get here. I also have a pack of mince to use up so will have a rummage around the fridge and see what I can make with it.

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning All

Your OH is very thoughtful dumpling, glad you enjoyed it and you have many more times out together.
Have a good lunch out Holly.

Cold and dry here but not as cold as it has been, it's nice not to have a gale force wind whistling through the windows. White wash to go on when I get home from work, it takes so long I don't want to leave it going whilst I'm at work.

Friends across the road are going away for a few days, an elderly friend of theirs is coming to keep an eye on them but I have been detailed to take the 14 year old to his cadets later, I usually go to bed about 9.30 but I have to pick him up then!

Work was good yesterday, we got away early so today will be a shock, a whole day with children!

Have a happy Thursday, take care. XX
  • Morning all, we seem to have had a storm in the night. I was woken at 2.30 by howling winds but managed to get back to sleep until 4. The wind seems to have blown itself out now but it is dark and I'm not going out to look, not until I have to.

Dumpling, that sounds really nice, lovely to know you had a little break.

I am working today, offering a 'teach-in' session on a specialist area this morning and I expect paperwork and more paperwork for the rest of the day, O Lucky Me.

I need to get showered and dressed, can hardly go to work in my pjs though there are days when I'd quite like to..
I should be springing into action but I fear it will be more of a feeble slouch into plodding. A shower will energise me, hopefully. I'm hoping for a slightly more comfortable bus journey today. Yesterday, the only available seat was next to a man who seemed to expand throughout the journey, by the time we arrived, I was clinging to my seat like a cross limpet, he'd expanded into half my seat and I felt like bopping him on the head with my buspass, though I restrained myself. I'm not a thin person but I can keep to one seat on the bus. Still, he didn't smell, that sounds daft but the bus often contains soap-dodgers so I get to work hoping that the ponginess has not transferred to me.

I'm off, must get arris in gear now so will wish you all a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Morning folks and thanks for the start DUMPLING. I had the most rubbishy night with worries and woes swirling round my head most of the night. Every so often all Mr TA's health problems get on top of me and I can't shake them off. (Where's Nan's Sandman when you need him?!)

The chaos outside with the gas men replacing all the gas pipes continues. They haven't got to us yet but we got back from shopping yesterday afternoon to find a note through the door that everyone's gas will need to be turned off today for about 5 hours!! So no ch and no fire! I have the fan heater ready and waiting on standby. Fortunately it doesn't feel quite so cold this morning - yet!

Our visit to the kitchen place to look at plans etc on his computer took place as planned. It looks really nice so we have settled on it - despite it costing much, much more than we anticipated! OK there are things we could have cut back on but it would be a shame to spoil the look of it. We settled on the vanilla shaker style, with dark oak worktops and flooring and a granite sink. They won't be starting it until the end of March and I can't wait! I can still remember the nightmare of living without a kitchen when we had the current kitchen done about 34 years ago!

So now operation spend less will be in force to try and build up the savings we will be parting with!

I have just got some cooked mince out of the freezer and will top that with some l/o mashed potatoes and do a shepherd's pie for tea. I have an abundance of eggs (sorry HOLLY!) so I think lunch will be bacon and mushroom omelettes.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for everyone in need/want of them. Take care all xx

  • Morning all. Still dark, but it looks a bit sparkly out there, so there must be a slight frost.
Yesterday was absolutely freezing with a very strong wind, i hope it's calmed down a bit today.

We had relatives visiting, and they wanted to go for a seaside walk - we were nearly blown away!

The northeast coast is not known for warmth in February, often not known for it in midsummer.come to that!! Anyway, it was great to see them, and we had a nice day out.

Today, I'm just catching up a bit. I've got to go to the library and the bank. We are going out tonight for a meal with friends, just locally, so I won't need to cook.

Dumpling, glad you had a pleasant evening out with Steve, hope you continue it.
Hope you enjoy your lunch out Holly.
TA, your kitchen sounds lovely. It will be well worth the mess and inconvenience while it's being installed.

Hope everyone has a good day, take care folks

    Morning everyone

dumpling - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light but not so cold and blustery, damp under foot too.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, both boys still in their pits, but will be waking DS2 as we're having a little trip out just me and him, hoping to be back first thing this afternoon. I need to go to local town to visit the bank and building society first thing, then we'll head off.

Dinner last night was braised pork steaks, mash, LO cauli/broc cheese, carrots, LO yorkshires - so LO's used up nicely. I remembered to get the chicken thighs out to defrost - so tonight they will become HM chicken, bacon and mushroom pie which I'll serve with mash, peas and gravy.

Work yesterday wasn't too bad, but I'm glad to be on days' off, as working whilst you're unwell isn't great, but this morning I do feel better and I didn't take any meds last night, so hoping I'm improving, although I do have a bit of a cough.

I'll just get done what I can today, and will get the boys to help, if I can get a few loads of washing done then that will be great.

    Keep safe and well x
