The mattress is the right size as it is King size and fits the size of the bed. My bed has lats which are around 7 inch wide with similar sized gaps between them. The firmness on the label is described as 'Medium' and quotes a weight range (presumably of the persons using it). But this mattress doesn't have the 'structure' to it to span the lats without you being able to detect them. I couldn't possibly know this without buying it and trying it.

Put a piece of plywood full size of bed over lats.

Did you think, before buying it to Google "Lidl mattress £75"? That would have warned you that it was unlikely to meet your requirements.
  • Lidl's returns policy:
    Non-Food specials items
    a) Faulty Non-Food specials items
    - Within 12 months of purchase:
If you are not satisfied with the quality of a non-food specials item purchased at one of our stores, you may return the item within one year of purchase with your receipt or proof of purchase to one of our stores, for a replacement or a full refund.

    - After 12 months of purchase:
If more than 12 months after purchase you find a fault with the quality of a non-food specials item purchased at one of our stores, please contact our Customer Services department for assistance and an experienced operator will talk you through your options.

    b) Non-faulty Non-Food specials items
If you simply change your mind about a non-food specials item purchased at one of our stores, you may still return the product to store for a full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as you return it with your receipt and in its original packaging.

    Your mattress is not faulty.

Why do you suggest they are not fulfilling their obligations?
  • Lidl have now given me a full refund acknowledging that I had the right to return the item as it was unsuitable for the intended purpose and have acknowledged that their requirement to return the item in its original packaging was flawed. This wasn't about how much someone pays for a product, this was about a consumer exercising their right to return something which doesn't fulfil its promise. Common sense prevailed.

They've given you a refund as a goodwill gesture. Excellent customer service.

Who said I only paid £75? At no point have I said how much I paid for it - this has just been assumed. It was cheap for a mattress but it wasn't that cheap!
  • Excellent customer service.

Agreed. At no point did Lidl say I couldn't return it. That's why I shop with them.

Hi OP.....Just tried to give away to a charity a mattress bought from Lidl several years ago. Probably the same as your own purchase. King Size. Still UNUSED, BRAND NEW, though not in the original packaging.
It was refused by the charity on the grounds that it had no fire label but otherwise in sellable condition.
The charity collection guys did find a label with an Italian makers name and seemed to suggest that Italy was exempt or ignored EU fire regulation labelling.
Could be why you got your refund.
