I have very fond memories of puttering around & when my feet ached, stopping for sticky buns, & sending home postcards. We did also find the supermarket had an impressive sticky bun range so tuned the finances depending on how much culture the feet had taken...
  • Another vote her for Bosnia. Old town in Sarajevo is absolutely gorgeous and there's plenty of sightseeing to do. Mostar is also worth a visit (you can get the train from Sarajevo).

I've been to Sarajevo many times and made many wonderful memories. Food is great, people are lovely, stunning architecture and always something to do/see.

In order of preference and none were bad:
    Prague
    Krakow
    Gdansk
    Budapest

Highlights, beer hall in Prague, salt mines in Krakow, Secheyney Spa Budapest. Gdansk harbour/old town.

Dont know if Mostar in Bosnia is E europe it was interesting too if a bit eerie with it. I drove from Cavtat in Croatia and there was still a feeling of uneasyness.
My formula is usually get a cheap suitable flight first then build the rest around it.
  • I would suggest Parnu in summer. But really the best bet would be to visit as many pre-brexit as possible. Things are likely to get more expensive (visas, taxes and insurance) and involved following our withdrawal - so do as much as you can within the next couple of years.

And as Bosnia & Herzegovina isn't in the EU, your £ goes much further.....brilliant destination.:)

Been to the following Eastern/Central Europe Cities in the past, Tallinn, Prague, Budapest, Krakow, Warsaw, Gdansk, Kaunas, Wroclaw, Sofia, Timisoara(this week) Bratislava, Riga, Ljublijana, St Petersberg, only ones I wouldn't recommend are Warsaw, Sofia, Timisoara and Bratislava.

Blimey you couldn't pay me to go back to Kaunas, even though I had one of the best meals of my life there.

Warsaw is ok, especially the random bears by the side of the road and I quite liked Bratislava, even though its tiny and can really be done in a couple of nights
Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right
