I do have an inherited win10 PC from a deceased relative which I can experiment with and the whole thing really is a pile of sh*t.
Programs which work on one update mysteriously do not when it gets updated.
In fact it is almost a bad a Linux in some respects for updates breaking things.

It's not GNU/Linux that is to blame for updates breaking -- it's badly implemented distributions of it (or user error). I've had machines running Arch Linux for about a decade and nothing has broken yet.

Windows Update is much more buggy, and doesn't even update your installed software. It's a right pain having to download and install updates for every installed program manually. And I've lost count of the number of times I've been asked to fix a PC because Windows Update has stopped working.

It sounds like the OP is using Windows 7.
Of course I am using Windows 7. How else would I receive an update for Windows 7? I have expounded in various other threads why I won't be "updating" to Windows 10 and am not going to repeat it here. I have nothing against other Windows 10 users nor against Linux users. I have helped friends/neighbours with Windows 10 problems and have bought and installed new PC's with Windows 10 for two other friends.

I know, but dipsomaniac seemed to think you were running Windows 10 as "everyone was given a free upgrade"! :rotfl:
