ebay and pop up stags bluekai.com

Is anyone else having an issue with ebay constantly bringing up a pop up message saying the browser (safari in my case) can't verify the website stags bluekai com (spaces added and dots removed by me as I don't want to link to it)?

It's literally every page I click to, I get this pop up and have to click cancel before it will let me do anything else. I've never actually been on the stags website but I did clear cookies and found one with that name, but clearing cookies hasn't helped.

I've googled it and actually some people were complaining about this issue 8 years ago so it's not a new thing but it's only started happening for me recently.

Anyway just wondered if anyone else here is having this problem? It's making ebay really slow and unpleasant to use.

If you Google stags bluekai it appears to be connected to a virus. You may have installed a legitimate program and the installer has added some kind toolbar that is trying to send you to this website. Some of these installers you have to unclick to stop them adding the toolbar. Especially on free software. Or it may well be a virus that has infected your computer.

I would check Safari settings and toolbars to see if something has been added. Or even better uninstall it, do a full virus scan and reinstall. If not try another browser. If not then I would just do a full reinstall on your computer.

But it really does sound like some kind of virus rather than an Ebay problem. It may only happen on Ebay as it is trying to redirect to get your info.

Thanks mrcol1000, but I'm not very technical at all. I've read the same thing you have, about it being a virus that I may have downloaded and I've followed the instructions I found online but couldn't actually find anything that appeared related to stags that I could uninstall. The only thing I found was that one cookie, which I deleted.

I don't install programmes, being a Luddite - though I have played solitaire online so it's possible it has piggy-backed onto something like that.

But my further reading suggested that most people were having the issue only with ebay and also that ebay did at one point have some connection with stags bluekai, which may not be a virus, but actually some kind of advertising company trying to direct people to their ads.

The only solution I read that anyone had found was to use AVAST, which I'm not keen on using because I've never heard of it, and I don't like downloading things, and also the people who did use AVAST said it was wise to uninstall it afterwards as it can interfere with other things... so all in all I'm a bit wary of it.

AVAST is a free virus program. Its completely legitimate but does try and sell you the paid services. I use Panda Virus now which is also free but again tries to sell paid services. If you are unsure about free virus software then you can buy 1 year licences for McAfee and other software.

But really you need to get rid of this virus. It could be doing other things as well. It may not have been through a program you have installed. It can download from a website you have visited or even an e-mail.

If you haven't got virus software installed then I really would as unfortunately you are most likely going to end up with more viruses and they could do a lot worst.

Just be aware that if you goggle the keywords of the problem you have, you may come across people trying to exploit your computer further because the "payload" is already installed don it.
