Hi, my vehicle was parked inside a company's car park. I returned to the vehicle to see some damage was done to it. I'm certain the damage happened at the location.
I requested CCTV footage from the company to see who had damaged the vehicle and was told by the company I needed to get a police reference number, which I did and gave it to them.
Now, some time later, I enquired about the progress of their investigation the company said "their policy is that the police needs to acquire the CCTV footage directly from the company."
Does this sound like correct procedure or is this normal in the case of collisions? Thanks.

It sounds reasonable to me. At the end of the day you have no right to their CCTV so they can institute any procedure they so wish.0

So you're saying the company have no obligation towards you or your property if you're in their premises? I don't know the law on this exactly (why I'm posting) but it doesn't sound reasonable to me.0 -

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. The CCTV is there to protect their interests, not yours.0 -

The police will decide whether it!!!8217;s worth their time and effort pursuing what to them is a trivial matter on (presumably) private land.0

Please ask the police, and then let us know what they say.0 -
