How about a nice steak and onion pie? Or, cook it with some potatoes, carrots, onions and peas and use it as the filling for pasties. Lovely eaten hot or cold.

Thanks both sound lovely, but a bit less summery than I was hoping for :)
Maybe will leave it in there til august/winter time and have comfort food then :D

would that work with stewing steak? I thought it would be a bit tough for quick cooking?
Perhaps if you marinaded it ina vinegar or wine based marinade that would help tenderise it I think. Also if you kept the pieces of meat small

If it's not too tough what about pasties? (If it is you could precook in a slow cooker to tenderise if you have one).

Follow the Cornish recipe with slivers of potato, onion and turnip and it should be shortcrust pastry though flaky is nice. Add a little salt and lots of pepper. I make my on small dinner plates as they are nice and big and easy to judge the size that way.

    Glaze and bake.... Yummy!

Pineapple juice is supposed to be good for tenderising meat - the enzymes in it or something. So maybe marinade in pineapple juice for a while and then make a sweet and sour dip/sauce for the kebabs?

How about a stroganoff sort of idea, served with jackets and salad or on rice.

Thanks all. The Stifado is probably what I will go for, have made it before and is nice and not too heavy, summer style :D
(I am determined to pretend its not rainy and horrible ;))

    Hi all,

I have a frozen lump of stewing steak (possibly with slight freezer burn :o - is it ok to still use?) but want to do something other than casserole with it - any suggestions please?

    Thanks :)

    C xx
  • My first thought was bourguignon, but I guess that's a casserole type dish too....just thought that the rich sauce may disguise any missing flavour from the freezer burn....I would probably try & use it ( as long as it didn't look badly burnt)..
