These look yummy. Thanks to Cherry's site. I love pastry but hate mushrooms so would have to substitute those for something else. x

Littleredhen I love rice, cashewnuts and veg so could maybe adapt your recipe without the cheese and egg or mushrooms...:o I've tried vegan cheese but apart from tofu cream cheese which is gorgeous, I just can't abide it. x
Pandora I'll get the recipe and post. There are so many variations, one in particular was actually too 'meaty' for me  I do like to taste the nuts in them but I'll look for the tastiest one we've tried. x

hiya dizzy - i think you would be okay with the vegan cheese as its not like eating it on a sandwich and the egg is just for binding the ingredients together so again i am sure you could find some substitute - the mushrooms do give it a nice moistness (is there such a word??) so i am not sure what you could use instead maybe extra carrot and perhaps something like sweetcorn or courgette?

    Hiya littleredhen:hello:
That's true about the cheese, maybe I should give it another go. I just hate mushrooms...and I know this sounds really mad but the texture is what I imagine a slug would be, sorry :o I could substitute with potato maybe or sweetcorn as you say. Usually if a recipe asks for an egg to bind I just use water and it works fine. Thanks for the ideas huni. :D x

    Hi
    I was searching for ideas yesterday & came up with this really clever site;
    http://www.veganlunchbox.com/loaf_studio.html
You choose your favourite combination from various options in the categories 'protein' 'carbohydrate' 'vegetables' etc, click on submit & it creates your own personalised vegan roast or byurger recipe.
I'm a bit new to all this technology stuff so maybe I'm naiive but I think it'a AMAZING & will be using it regularly I'm sure.

BBC Good Food puts out a special Vegetarian Christmas issue every year, and there are good ideas in there as well. (Haven't seen this years yet.)

Does it  I know it used to, but haven't seen one for years. Let me know if there's one this year :T :T

What a good idea. I'm looking for inspiration for this year too. Last year I made a tofu turkey thing from Recipezaar. It was quite tasty, but a bit fiddly and made far too much for us! I've tried the Redwoods Celebration Roast before now, and might have to resort to that if I can't find any inspiring recipes.

Another vote for the Redwood Celebrations Roast here. We never have 'fake' meat normally, so this is something a little different to have on Christmas Day.

We usually have a large ( Christmas-type) meal on New Years Day, too - to get together with friends and family who like to have Christmas in their own homes, and the nurses/policemen in the family who are working over Christmas Day. I usually do a nut roast, but last year I made a mushroom, tofu and ale filo pie thing which tasted lovely.
  • Good Food Vegetarian Special is out now - bought a copy at the weekend ;) Some nice looking ideas in there. I made the Moroccan Filo Pie from last year's for the veggies at the Christmas table (and quite a few of the non-veggies) - the recipe's on their website now.

    (First post - hello everyone :D )

At the weekend we had a Realeat 'minty lamb' roast; we're not veggie but were very impressed. It was convincing enough to fool our cats who were scoffing pieces of it. It does contain egg so not vegan.

    Hello :D
I have bought this mag in the past and got a great recipe for glamorgan sausages from it. They usually have some lovely recipes in it. But not much use to me now a vegan. Though I could have a peep at it in asda to see if I could adapt some recipes. Still no idea what I'm doing for Christmas Dinner. x
