Is a phone line required for wireless broadband?

Hi, I hope im not being thick, but ive tried researching this online and am getting more confused by the day!
Ive moved into a property that i am renting - will probably only be there for another 4 months. I am trying to get broadband installed but am having probs with the lack of a working phone line. The house did used to have bt and there are signs of this, ie the box on the wall, but the line has been disconnected. I called BT and they have quoted me £130 !!! - whatever happened to £9.99???
So i dont really want to pay that then move in a few months anyway.
Ive read on the internet that wireless broadband doesnt need a phone line - is this correct?
Or does this mean that a phone line goes into the wiress router and the laptopis wireless???
Im tempted to just try and hook onto others, but i know this isnt sustainable has anyone got any suggestions at all?
Really appreciate your help!!!
Thx

very few places will do broadband for just 4 months, i dont know of any,
bt the £130 is to probably get the line fitted/activated and theyd want a 12month contract but you may be able to move that contract to your next address?Yes Your Dukeiness0 -
Hi,
You dont need a phone line for broadband but only virgin media offer this. I have virgin media and never had any problems but it would have to be a 12 month contract. i pay £20 per month for tv and broadbandBank Charges refunded from Halifax £2600Bank Charges refunded from halifax joint account £554Credit Card Charges refunded £300 plus interestI'm proud to be dealing with debt!!! :T0 -
check with the 3 network. they do a mobile connection for around £10 a month. this method is used by lots of lonf distance drivers .business men etc.could be ideal for a temp measure0

vodafone and o2 also do wireless connections, a usb modem contains a sim which connects at 3G speeds (supposed to be broadband equivelent)
My husband has one for when he's away working in his lorry but I can't see any reason you couldn't use it in a house?0
