Lost job, mortgage payments?

Very worried, just found out going to be made redundant.

If I sign on jsa, can I get my mortgage interest paid?

If so for how long?

    https://www.gov.uk/support-for-mortgage-interest/eligibility

Mortgage interest payments made with certain means tested benefits, under pension age and you have to wait 39 weeks before you can claim.

There are changes coming in that from April 18, it changes to a loan which is the paid back. The link gives more details

SMI is currently paid as a benefit. From 6 April 2018 it will be paid as a loan.

Whether your SMI will be paid as a benefit or a loan depends on when you get, or are treated as getting, your qualifying benefit.

So you get a loan to pay the loan.

I wonder what the interest rates are for the government loan to pay the interest on your mortgage loan?

If you are entitled to it yours will be a loan as there is a waiting period of 39 weeks.

Have you checked whether you have any Income Protection cover? (people often forget that they have taken it out)

Will you get any redundancy money?

Can you get another job? (anything really as you may be entitled to other benefits to top up your income)

If all else fails you need to speak to your mortgage lender and ask for a 'payment holiday'/interest only for a period/extend the terms.

He didn't actually say that he was renting.

I wonder was it the case that he was looking to get on the housing list for an adapted property suitable for his disabled son, the plan being to sell the family home and use any equity in paying rent for the council property?

There have been cases mentioned before where an elderly person has sold a home and moved into rented council/housing association sheltered housing.

The second post says 'Somebody said you have to wait until you are in default on your rent, then get a notice from your landlord, then and only then will you get offered a house.

But is there not a way to get on the waiting list before that?'

Wy would someone with a mortgage wanting to get on the housing list bring up these points?

Also from the month before: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5706444

Specifically mentions being on income support and housing benefit.
