How long before tell HB of change of circumstances?

How long before tell HB of change of circumstances?

Im still waiting for something in the post, it was about a week now my circumstances changed, but I don't want to tell housing benefit yet because they will just stop my payments and tell me to provide X,y and z. I haven't got everything yet.

Will I get in trouble for not telling them straight away?

It shouldn't be about 'getting in trouble' it should be about doing the right thing and telling them a week ago as you agreed to do when you claimed.

Yes. The government changed the rules a few years back so we now slap you with a financial penalty for failing to promptly report a change in circumstances if that failure creates an overpayment of £250 or more. http://www.bracknell-forest.gov.uk/civil-penalties-guide.pdf.
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.

Too late is day after you know, a week I would have thought questions will be asked.
