Help with broadband size!?

i am useless with all this kind of stuff so please forive me and help me if you can! I am currently on AOL broadband and i pay £20.48 a month but i can leave AOL on all day everyday if i want and it doesnt cost me any extra. The only things i ever download are songs or the odd photo emails friends send me. I am also on BT option 3 which costs £22 per month and i have just found out i can get broadband and phoneline through TalkTalk 2 international (i have a cousin in greece!) for £16ish a month! But... here's the difficult bit for me.... how much can i use the internet with TalkTalk? It says 10gb or something? How long is that? How does it work? Ive only ever been with AOL for internet and i am used to unlimited access. Please help! Thanks ;)

Hopefully, someone will move your post to the correct section, Internet Access.

Cursory advice...Downgrade your BT package to the cheapest and get something like BE Value from https://www.bethere.co.uk/

Do a search for people's experiences with Talk Talk before deciding.

'Size' and 'long' are poor terms to use when describing broadband connections. This is by no means the best analogy but... imagine your broadband connection is a hosepipe with a bucket at the bottom. The wider your hosepipe, the greater the quantity of water will flow per second into your bucket (this is bandwidth). The size of your bucket is the download limit (i.e. how much water you are allowed to hold in your bucket). In my opinion, a bucket of 10GB is pretty damned big and only a serious torrent user or similar would use that much. If a music album is 100MB (and that's pretty good quality MP3), then you would be able to download 100 albums for 10GB.
Overall, it does sound like you are paying over the odds for your services. Hav you considered using CPS (carrier preselect) for your Greece calls (e.g. 18185).

I'd be very careful switching to Talk Talk, mind you I wouldn't recommend AOL to anyone either. You get what you pay for in general, there are good ISPs which customers are happy with, but many poor ones.

joshm offers good advice about calling carriers. I'd also suggest you look at Skype, especiallly if your friends in Greece have it too, via an internet connection, calls could be cheap or free!

Don't worry about it, dizzyb. That's why this site was created.

Stick with BT, but change to the cheapest tariff. Dial 0844 205 05 05 and then your Greek landline number for calls at half a penny per minute.

    Nice post, joshm. :)
