Actually, there is a meditech company in the USA that was looking for funding to develop a high tech exo skeleton.

I don't think it was aimed at older people, but I see no reason why it can't be.

Are we ambitious enough when it comes to preventative medicine?

Actually, there are a number of companies seeking to develop exoskeletons. (There are military applications.) Here's one that is undergoing clinic trials at the East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust

It looks a bit robocop, I have now idea how much one costs, since they don't seem to quote any prices. Or indeed what the financial impact would be if the NHS was required to buy ten million or so of them as a preventative measure for the elderly.

I don't imagine they're cheap. Mind you, if it works, I could bl00dy do with one.

If they could get it down to the same price as a mobility scooter I'd definately go for one.

I know it's about £2k for a foldable lithium battery powered scooter. An exoskeleton? £20k? £200k? Who knows? Of course, if it's the kind of product that takes off, mass production would bring the cost down.

It might even become an option on motability.:)
