Old Style Daily Sunday 4th February

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a cold morning here so the heating has been put on and the grandchildren are wrapped in blankets watching some dreadful youtube videos of Minecraft. It's my youngest grandson's latest obsession. It could be worse I suppose :D.

I am waiting for everyone else to wake up so I can go and have a wash and get dressed. Steve is fast asleep though and I don't want to disturb him by creeping around the bedroom getting clothes out of the wardrobe :). I can hear Becky snoring as well and she had a very tough evening so I want her to sleep in as long as possible.

I was supposed to have a tea party just for me and the girls yesterday but that didn't go to plan at all but nevermind, there are still lots of yummy cakes and nibbly bits in the fridge so we can try again today. We are not having a roast today either, I am making moroccan chicken and rice for a change. I have bought a rice cooker and really want to try it out.

I decided to change the living room a little bit so I bought a load of new cushions and throws from Asda. Their new range is lovely, I picked all the bright and cheerful ones and have also ordered a pink rug with llamas on :rotfl:. To be honest, we all need cheering up a bit so this is a start. Lilly just rolled her eyes when the boxes arrived but I think she was secretly impressed....it's very hard to tell :rotfl:.

I am definitely in a spendy mood as I bought a few new books to read as well. I don't want to get any more wool until I have used up some of my stash, although I was very pleased to have finished the orangutan bag and also finally sewed up the dragon I made months ago. The grandkids were thrilled with their presents and now I can make a start on something new.

I hope you all got a bit of a better night's sleep last night. Sleep deprivation is the worst, I think it drives you a little bit mad in the end, especially if you have a partner next to you snoring in your ear.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to as well, take care xx
  • Morning all and thank you Dumpling for starting the thread. I hope you have a better day today. The llamas sound fun! I like llamas and alpacas, I get muddled between the two.
I should not have been pleased with myself about the long sleep because last night was back to normal which is 4 hours.
Today I mean to blitz the kitchen, I've scrubbed the floor, and do some intensive pottering. I'm making some baby stuff for my friend's sister. So I can do knit and knetflix.
Then I have a roast dinner to do in the evening and that man has bought pork again, no apple for Apple sauce which is the only good thing about the pork I think. I'll make some stuffing, I'll have that without the meat perhaps. And lots of lovely green veg.
Hope everyone has a good and hopefully peaceful day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Morning DUMPLING and all who follow. The heating is on here too I can't do with being cold these days! I too like the sound of the rug! I love llamas and alpacas. I think alpacas have the cutest faces!

I have had my text off AO and my delivery slot for the wm is between 10.00 and 2.00. Although I was up and dressed before 7.00 in case we were the first delivery and they arrived without texting me first! Hey ho that's me worrying in advance! We got the old washer out yesterday with great difficulty so that is ready and waiting for them to take away with them. Got a telling off from DS for not asking for his help in getting the old one out! But I have told him I will ring him when we have unpacked the new one and he can help getting that in the tightest of spaces!

I got my big batch of mince cooked yesterday and that is now frozen in bags for whenever it is needed. Both the upright and chest freezers are now so stuffed I couldn't slip a slice of bread in anywhere so high time we started living out of them.

Today's lunch is to be the chicken portions topped with cheese and leek gratin that I got half price in Aldi a few weeks back. I have had them before and they are quite tasty. Will do with carrots, peas and baby roasties I think. Nice easy lunch!

Have a nice day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, carers, sad, worried or lonely. Take care all xx

    Another restless night here.

I spent yesterday afternoon in bed as I was wiped out.

No plans for today. In fact I might go back to bed in a minute.

Have a good day everyone x

    Morning All

A very grey February day, one of those where it probably won't get light at all.

Late night for me last night, it was 12.30 when I got back from the concert, at least the roads were clear. My friend really enjoyed herself, me not so much, not really my thing!

DD and BF coming for lunch today, I have concocted something vegan for them, hope it's ok. They are off to Vietnam and Cambodia on Wednesday for a couple of weeks lucky things.

Booked a 'girls' trip to Lisbon yesterday, something to look forward to in August - anyone been? Would love to hear what you enjoyed.

Bathrooms to clean so had better get moving. Have a happy Sunday, take care. XX
  • Morning Aod and Dumpling, and those to follow. Cold here and looks icy, We had heavy rain last night, but it's dry now.
Dumpling, my grandsons were heavily into Minecraft, the relentless voices on the Youtube videos used to drive me mad. Hope you get your tea party today.
Aod, we are having pork today as well - I was looking at the lamb, but it's such a price.

Had Ds and Dil over yesterday morning. Dil and i did a quick round of the chazzers in our little town, i bought 2 nighties for the fabric, one of them was vast and had had hardly any wear, I could tell by the feel of the material. The other hadn't had much wear and was cotton jersey with a little print. Dil got a brand new coat, so we felt we'd done well.

We won't be out today, i must get on with my sewing, and there's other jobs as usual.

Hope everyone has a good day.

    Morning all,

Grump is fine, I thought he would be, if anything hes a bit more appreciative which can only be a good thing. Im sure if he could find his Mother dead on the floor and get over it, he'd get over a road traffic accident. However I'll have to keep an eye on him as I dont want him to go down the stress related depression route again.

Shopping yesterday...cant believe how much prices have gone up. 12p on a tin of carrots and peas Grump likes. Up till then I'd only noticed the milk had gone up.

Need to pop out to the shopping centre later but thats about it. Not heard a peep out the kids. No doubt they will save it till im on my own.

As much as I appreciate the time I have when Grump is working away. It comes at a cost.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

Morning everyone and thanks for the start Dumpling, hoping you have a good day.

I struggled to get to sleep last night and then was a bit restless so feel a tad wiped out this morning, no matter as nothing urgent needs doing today. Obviously will go over and see my girlie at some point and the eldest DSS is coming over to watch the footie with his Dad, the plan is then to either pick up a takeaway or pop out for a curry depending on what everyone wants so it's a no cooking day for me :j

I have a front door wreath for every season of the year apart from spring so need to get my thinking cap on and my glue gun out, will trawl around the Internet for inspiration, already have the plain ring wreath so that's a start.

Have a good day folks x

    Morning everyone

I slept much better last night. I got 6 hours and only got up half an hours ago. I certainly feel much better this morning than I did yesterday.

Sorry the tea party didn’t go to plan dumpling, and that Becky is still having a tough time. The sitting room sounds great. I think that a little shopping spree on always makes you feel better.

Today is definitely the weather for a day in with a good book, a bit of TV watching and a nap on the sofa. I think where is seems to me that winter has gone on a long while this year I am becoming increasingly less keen to go out in the cold weather. I am missing my walks through the local park that I enjoy at other times of the year, and sitting on a bench people watching. At least the nights are drawing out now.

I think I will try and find the energy to clean the bathroom this morning, and then sort through a pile of paperwork languishing at the bottom of a cupboard. It is mostly stuff which needs shredding, and I find that such a boring job that I have been putting it off.

Apart from going to have a coffee with a neighbour this morning, I don’t have any other plans.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

Popping back on to say that we have been to Lisbon Camelot.
It's a lovely city, we especially liked the old Alfama district with its trolley cars. We took one up the hill to the castle, although it's still a bit of a climb after that, but well worth it for the views. Oh and not to forget the little custard pies which are a Portuguese specialty, yum!
