This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Morning everyone
Could I please renew my membership of the can’t sleep and been awake for hours club? I think I managed about an hour and a half last night in total and have been reading/watching t.v. or surfing the internet for hours. I initially hoped that if I curled up on the sofa with the tv on quietly I would doze off on there, but it didn’t seem to happen. I think that a nana nap will be called for later today.
When I looked out of the window about 3.00am there were four foxes running up and down the road. There is a street lamp outside my house so I had a clear view. I knew that they were about on the estate but I haven’t seen any for a number of years.
I’ve got one load of washing in the dryer and another in the machine. I thought that as I was up and awake I may as well strip the bed.
I had sausages, mash and baked beans for dinner yesterday evening and really enjoyed it. I fancy fish today and am toying with the idea of making a salmon en croute. I think I’ll see how I feel later. It may just turn into grilled salmon with new potatoes and veg.
Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Morning everyone
Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off, but boo to not sleeping x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH and myself are enjoying first peaceful cuppas, I'm also showered and dressed as I'm working this morning. I'm eating my overnight oats with fruit and yogurt - delicious - I eat either that or porridge for brekkie daily.
Still dark - looks cold and frosty.
Dinner last night was chicken and bacon kievs, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg for the menfolk, I found a bag of cous cous with veg in the depths of the freezer and also a bag of quorn chicken pieces, so stir fried the cous cous and added some of the quorn chicken pieces and I had that, I really enjoyed it too. Some more room made in the freezer. Tonight dinner is going to be pizza, hot chicken wings, french fries, salad, coleslaw etc.
I was reasonably productive again yesterday, I did the food shopping, and then went back into town to visit the bank and building society and managed to remember to pay in what I should have done. Came home and got on with the ironing. I also managed to find the bottom of the dirty wash basket, but that was only a short term thing as it's now half full again!
We were going to visit the outlaws and my parents today, but DH has a horrible cough which some of his colleagues have, so we'll probably just stay at home this afternoon.
Keep safe and well x

Morning HOLLY and all to follow. My sleeping is better than it was but not as good as I would like! I can get to sleep ok but wake up around 4.30 and toss and turn till about 5.30 and then give in and get up.
It feels blooming cold this morning and not forecast to rise above 2 deg all day for us, with a mixture of rain, sleet and hill snow. Brrr.
If I am brave enough to face the cold and wet I intend going into town today as the skunk roots are a disgrace and I haven't a hair dye in reserve. In fact the whole hair is a disgrace as I haven't had it cut since early November and then I "fell out" with my hairdresser when I eventually made an appointment and she didn't turn up in the snow! I vowed I would start going somewhere else but I haven;t and think I may have to relent and go back to her despite all my grumbling! Might ring and make an appointment after all!
I left a big pack of mince defrosting to cook today. I want to use some for freezing in portions for shepherds pies when there is mash leftover and then make individual mince pies with the rest. The belt tightening has started in earnest in readiness for the new kitchen taking a huge chunk out of our savings!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, carers, sad, worried or lonely among us. Take care and keep warm! xx
Oh I almost forgot HOLLY! I ordered the washer and it's getting delivered tomorrow - free delivery and they are taking the old one away free too as a goodwill gesture for a new customer! Not bad eh!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning :hello:
I'm not quite sure where january went, it was a fast paced chaotic blurThere has been more washing, scrubbing and rearranging. I was ruthless with flinging things out and have been left with useful things, which have been piled in the corner of the spare room. I can't put them where I want them yet, my electrician friend is coming round at some point to put more sockets in – he put the cable above the ceiling in the lounge last year, ready for miss tru to move stuff in her room so he could do the job then, but she never got round to it. Now that room is [STRIKE]mine[/STRIKE] spare and almost empty, he's going to sort it for [STRIKE]me[/STRIKE] us. He's also got an enormous drill bit (stop sniggering Hester lol) so is going to drill a hole through the wall for miss tru's cable TV, the wire goes across the landing at the moment and is annoying everyone. Her room has floorboards (obviously, lol), soundproofing and laminate. There's no way I'm taking that lot up for the sake of one wire, so I'm going to tack it around the doorframe.
The little covered area near the back door is no longer being used as a builder's yard and I finally have my space backIt needs a good sweeping and scrubbing, I'll wait for a dry day to do that. I can now reach the washing lines again, it's so nice not to have clothes hanging in the house all the time.
There's a brace of pheasants hanging on the end of the washing line. Scampi hasn't noticed them - yet

I'm back in the no sleep club too HH.
I feel like I've been up all night and am wiped out now.
No plans for the day now as I have no energy at all.
Have a good day everyone x'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore'0 -
Morning All
Good to hear from you tru, sounds like you are being kept busy.
Happy kitchen hunting TA!
It's a cold, damp day here, the washing can go on the pulley and airers, there seems to be a lot in the basket. DW can go on when I've finished my morning tea.
I went to bed at about 8 last night, cancelled the friends who were coming round, I had a really bad tummy ache again. It was the same as Sundays and I think it's because I had some fried fish at lunch time. Seems that fried food is really disagreeing with me so I'll avoid it as much as possible.
Exercise class this morning and a concert this evening in Edinburgh, don't really want to go but my friend's husband refuses, it'll be a long night!
Have a good weekend, take care. XX0 -
Good morning all
Thanks for starting us off Hollyharvey
Feeling very pleased with myself, I have a fridge/freezer in the kitchen and two small freezers in the garage. I have managed to empty one small freezer, all washed and switched off, doesn't take much to make me happyI have a chicken that just wouldn't fit in any where so will use it next.
Nothing much planned.
Take care allIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning all, this no sleeping lark is a b***er isn't it. I can often get to sleep all right, then my eyelids spring open at 3.30 - 4.00 am and off I go, worrying about this one and that one, what if this awful thing happens, or something terrble happens to one of the family, and so on and so on. Or I start off like that and don't get to sleep till 4 in the morning.. I know we are not supposed to give medical advice, but this is not really medical - after reading about it, I tried B*ch remedy White Chestnut,. It's supposed to stop the round and round cycle of worrying. I think.it works, too. Hope I don't get barred from MSE for saying all this!!
We went to our friends funeral yesterday, it went as well as it could. Then back home for a sandwich and off to the hospital for a routine yearly checkup. I had breast cancer a couple of years ago, so it's for that.
Today, there are the usual jobs to do, bit of tidying, and I would like to get on with my sewing. I would really like to get out in the garden and tidy up, but it looks wet and miserable out there, and no doubt cold,
Hugs and thoughts to everyone who needs them - try and have a good day folks.0 -
Morning everyone, sorry to hear about our non-sleepers.
SR I also use Bach Flower Remedies, specifically the rescue one and find it most useful, hopefully just sharing the knowledge wont get us banned!
Dull and overcast here, there is talk of snow over the weekend and the sky certainly looks like that could happen. Still, we are marching steadily towards spring and things in the garden are starting to bud up, lovely.
Have a hay delivery coming to the yard today and DOH has said he will come over with me to move the bales into our little storage barn, will pop over later to check on the lovely girl and swing by the SM to pick up a couple of bits that we didn't get in the Sainsbobs shop. Not sure about tea, will have a freezer rummage in a minute and see what I can find.
Hugs to all poorlies and those with worries/cares, have a good Saturday folks x0 -
Morning all, what a gloomy, dank and dreary morning.
I am going to make people cross now, after a long run of dreadful nights, I was so cream crackered that I went to bed very early and slept for 9 hours. I normally sleep for 3 or 4 and like scarlet and TA I usually go to sleep without too much difficulty, for me it is staying asleep that is the problem.
The mister has gone to visit T*so as they sent out the club card vouchers so £10 off this week. We used to get more vouchers but now he switches between T*sco and M*rrisons depending on who sends the better inducements. I like Sainsbobs but they can be a bit expensive. Also, I am still cross with them for discontinuing my favourite own brand tea, 40 years ago, nothing like bearing a grudge!
I have woken with a streaming nose so my plan for today is have a hot bubbly bath and after that, I don't have specific plans. Too damp to enjoy being outdoors.
Hope everyone has as good a day as possible.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0
