  • Morning SH, sorry things are so so stressful at the moment - sending over a virtual cup of tea disguised as a coffee emoji :coffee:

I don't understand anything do do with the pensions etc, but sounds like IFA wants a lot for their advice, is there such a thing as a fixed cost or am I living in a dream world!!

Hope you manage to have a good weekend, H x
  • savingholmes sorry stuff is so tough and all consuming right now. It’s hard when you are all feeling like that as you say and you can’t pull each other up.

Be kind to yourself and realise how amazingly you are doing on debt repayment, future planning with the pensions (astronomical costs by the way:eek:) and supporting you DS and DD and thats without work and looking after a house and the dog. Keep going.

You do SO MUCH! It's no wonder you're exhausted.

I can understand that even though you have some really good positives it's hard to see past the immediate goings on. Try to take some of that you time as you know how much that benefits you.

I'm still a bit away from retirement age (about 25 years) but from a slowing down point of view (because of my health stuff) I do find that working part time has really improved my quality of life and work/life balance (ignore that I've worked so many more hours recently).

Just to come back on you IFA / pension, someone has posted up in the pensions board that it is £3.5k - £4k for doing the advice, so you may just want to save your time for something else and build up your savings for the one you have found, as you thought you may have to.

Hope you have a restful weekend.

Lovely to see you didn't all desert me for being a whinge bag! My boss let me work from home again today which was fab and I feel better for it tonight - that and it's the weekend. Sadly I'm very down on my flexi though as I effectively worked a half day yesterday. I'm glad if my ramblings have served some purpose - with those of you behind on pensions looking into them.

MF - sadly #3-4K is starting to look cheap. One very nice guy I spoke to would have wanted #10K - I had to remind myself that was why he was so nice LOL. BIL is going to see if he can find a good IFA for me. He thinks I've been offered a great cash transfer value - but his company don't touch pension transfers as it is too controversial. Lots of advisers running scared though for fear of being sued. FCA says should cost #3-4K. Wish they would give a list of recommendations on who would do it for that!! I have been given a value to transfer that is 50% higher than what some sites consider would be a fair value - which is why I want to go for it - that and the retire at 55 if we want to thing...

Well I went to Mr As and bought groceries. I asked DH to cook spag bol and he made a very nice one which was positive. Seeing DS tomorrow. Trying to avoid takeaway - although I think he will probably want one as a late birthday celebration... Bought some of his favourite food as a sweetener to stay in and cook ourselves. Will let you know how that works out.

    Have a good weekend all!

  • I saw your pensions thread, you will get there, it may just take a little longer to put your plan into action.

Does DH realise now he has proved himself with spag bol he will be back in the kitchen :D

After what you've gone through recently, I'm sure you all deserve a takeaway treat!

Hi MF - unfortunately a lot of our debt comes from the 'we deserve' mentality so trying to rein it in.

I taught DH to cook - it's just i have to give him a direct instruction - he rarely thinks of just offering. Anyway I made soup the other day with a whole load of YS veg - so tucking into a healthy snack.

I've been in pain with my leg and feet for about 2 weeks now - just had a 'Doh!' moment - I can get physio through work so will ask my boss to refer me so we can try and understand the cause and do something about it. Weirdly - the pain started 6/1 - my first day back at work for the year... Louise L Hay says when you have a problem with a part of your body like your leg - it can mean you are unhappy with the direction you are going in. It could however also still relate to the fall I had last August... Unconsciously the pain may also have been sapping my resilience this week... Let's hope if I fix that - some other things will fix too.

Also reading other people's diaries - reminded I wanted a new eye sight test and glasses - pretty sure I can reclaim it one way or another from work. Will check out the details before going ahead.
