What a lovely afternoon spent in the pub with your DH, I love it when we do that, you talk so much better and even though you are surrounded by people it's a place of privacy somehow, just you two. We love to go away for the night, sometimes Devon sometimes Cornwall always to a cheap Travelodge on offer, a few lovely walks, time spent together remembering why we got married....fit it in the budgetWeight loss 6lb/16lb 10lb to goI spend an insane amount of time wondering if I am doing it right, sometimes I remind myself that I am doing my best....and that is enough0

I agree with this. Little Miss Gap bought me an overnight hotel stay in another city for my birthday so boyfriend and I drove up yesterday, stayed over night last night and drove back down today. We had such a brilliant time just the two of us, no interruptions or day to day worries that we have at home, just out for something nice to eat last night, went to the cinema, and today we visited two sets of family on the way back. Some well needed couple time to reconnect after a busy few weeks. We don't go out very much so these little things are important when they come along. We budget for an annual trip to Newcastle for Christmas shopping in November and I really look forward to that tooMortgage at 12/07/2022 = £175,000

Like your DS I also had a passion for travel and found ways to do this cheaply,....
I also love your dreams of the good life. We have just made the move to somewhere more rural, by the sea and hopefully won't regret it. Like a previous poster said it has come with sacrifices - giving up higher paid jobs and leaving all my family and friends behind. We also moved country - to Northern Ireland, which is a beautiful, amazing place, with wonderful people and so much cheaper than England.
We would consider NI if it is still cost effective when we finally have the money together to make a move. Hope you enjoy your new place!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Thanks, CMD, GAP and DIA too - yes we are planning a night away and DS has agreed to be at home as we have got a wedding coming up mid September - luckily just as I get paid - so planning two days worth of time away from home for one night. The food sounds yummy so looking forward to it even though the couple are more friends with DH rather than me.
I've booked DH on a woodland coppicing course in November. He hates his job and is desperate to move but it just doesn't feel viable right now. Hopefully if he builds up some wider skills it will a) help him during this waiting period, b) upskill him, c) give him focused social contact and d) make him happier.
I have quite a few transferable skills and a variety of qualifications to back them up so am reasonably chilled about my ability to make money elsewhere if needed. I am thinking of writing a blog again with the hope of monetising it. Still debating domain names currently. They seem to have gone up a lot too since I last looked...
I think I am going to get the glass thing I made sent to me in the post. It was a good example of the kind of workshop I could see myself doing in future. I already have lots of craft materials. Perhaps I should kick DH out of his downstairs study and turn it over to crafts although that would mess with home insurance... sure there would be a way around that... I need to get past risk aversion if we are ever going to make really good £.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Thanks Honeysuckle. I have also invested in a new website and hosting package again so I can start blogging again and hopefully earn £ at some point and in the meantime showcase my writing talents. Annoyingly, my keyboard often sticks giving me unintended typos - so need to watch out for that.
Back at work tomorrow. DD starts college on Wednesday. Need it to go well.
DS is being hounded by a property company he applied to before the one we now want to go with - and I am being bombarded with email requests to be a guarantor even though I've sent multiple emails refusing as has he. Will contact the Uni accommodation people tomorrow to report the problem.
Took the dog for a long walk yesterday but today want to take her out to a NT property. DH was awake before I was so not sure where he is - wondering if he was called out.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Thanks DIA. DD got DS to do some decluttering so I took about 5 bags of stuff to the tip today. I've redone my budget with latest expenses in. Trying to trim where I can but wll see how it goes. With DS being home and DD preparing to start college on Wednesday have had a lot of expenses. Hopefully BIL will transfer money from MIL soon as it will go out at the start of next week. I've ordered a grocery delivery for next Thursday evening in the hope that it avoids further trips to the shop. Will then do our best to make that last until I get paid at the end of the following week. DS is off gallivanting to see his mates (tbf he's missed them for 6 months) but is spending money he doesn't have left, right and centre.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
