savingholmes said:Thanks Ohsh.... and MF. About to have a lovely roast dinner, followed by choc fudge cake and ice cream and then a fire pit in the garden with toasted marshmallows. DH is stringing up some new lights to make it extra special for DD and my upcoming birthday
I love a roast chicken or beef. I'd say the lights will look so pretty and with the fire pit it will be so cosy.

Hi CMD - Thanks for posting. It was bitter here last night so we have postponed the fire pit until it is a little warmer. It also turned out the lights DH had bought were more like uplighters but they can be different colours so they were actually quite cool.
I have to confess I seem to be struggling this week. Very little has gone to plan and I have been tearful a couple of days this week. I think part of it is I am struggling with my motivation for work and at the same time question if I actually have enough to do - even for working reduced hours and then that sends me on a downward spiral. To be clear - I think I am safe so I think it is all just in my head... I think the semi-release of lockdown is probably the real trigger as it seems very wishy washy. I am also fearful on behalf of others that they are putting themselves at risk. I keep trying to tell myself that I need to focus on my circle of influence but I am struggling. I am also over-spending which is adding to the pressure. Food prices have rocketed plus DS home.
Moving on... If I celebrate the positive - DS is earning about £200 a week from his freelance work at a time when we expected he wouldn't be earning anything. He has his ADHD assessment tomorrow and will hopefully then have a plan he can use to maximise his efforts and his energy. It is costing him around £550 however at a time when he still has debt to pay. The company he is freelancing for seem to really like him and have said they plan to give him more work when he finishes what he is currently doing. All of which seems pretty miraculous given C19.
For DD - other than the lights we spent very little new money as I had already bought her presents in advance. Similarly for my birthday - there is plenty that can be wrapped up for me - and I have already bought a very tasty cake mix that the kids can make for me. Grateful too we can still work at home but we are starting to miss social contact now. I have a nearly 6 month old nephew i haven't met yet. I did speak briefly to neighbours yesterday and today. I shared some seeds with next doors and they gave me a couple of tomato plants from their greenhouse which was nice of them.

I planted out some of lettuce seedlings this morning. Even though they were sown on the same day half of the seedlings were double the size of the others. My broccoli and cauliflower are surviving well under the mesh although they don't appear to have grown yet. My bean seedlings are all still alive and my potatoes are storming away. I planted out some nasturtium and marigold seedlings today too. I sowed some more spinach to start off indoors and transplanted some of my leeks into cells.
We took pooch for a walk late last night about 1 mile - but can't do more yet as she is still on her season. A friend of DD's came over for a socially distanced chat which was nice for her yesterday. Adding to everything I turn 50 in a week and it's such a strange time. DH also turns 50 later this year. I'd originally hoped for some time away just the two of us...Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

50 only hurts if you let it - and you shouldn't becuase its greatI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

You've been through a lot, still are, and are bound to feel conflicted, emotional, unsure and a million other feelings / thoughts.
You will find a way to get through this, don't put yourself under so much pressure, step back, break everything down and only take a small bite at a time, or none if you don't want to at the moment.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.2 -
Sorry to hear you have been feeling Meh. I think most of us have down days at the moment, but I think it is to be expected and you need to be kind to yourself. Don't worry about being 50, it is great. I actually think I feel better in my 50s than I did in my 40s, something about feeling a bit more sorted and not caring so much about what others think about me.

Thanks Mark, MF, BusyMee and INOD. It does help to come back to posts. I think I was over-tired - still am really.
Well DS is confirmed ADHD and is being sent a prescription in the post. It's a weird world where you get diagnosed virtually! DH is now considering trying to get diagnosed.
Today was payday which lifts the spirits. I've topped up my EF to cover what I spent on a CC until the bill becomes due - that one is set to pay in full anyway. I sent £828 to the target card so once the normal £172 is collected Monday it will be gone! Woohoo! Edging closer to getting below £20K debt. The chairs company have been in touch to say they are looking at how they can start back up and will be getting me a delivery date soon. I plan to pay them on a CC and put the money to cover it in an EF until after they have been delivered. Don't want to risk them going bust without me getting my goods.
I need to work out either how to cut my own hair or how to get DD to do it. I can't stand it long and it was last cut over 2 months ago which is a long time for me. Some more seedling trays arrived yesterday via Mr A so I need to thin out some of my seedlings and plant them on. I have 2 days booked off next week so with that and the bank holiday I will get a 5 day break. It's cloudy here and on the cool side but still bright.

Being overtired doesn't help and does bring you down.
You son has got his answers, can now work with it and make plans.
Perhaps more medical appointments will be done remotely. It's only the poking / prodding which requires a face-to-face appointment, although I've found that is mainly describe the issue, prod, yes here's a prescription or bend / lift body part, yes here's a prescription.
Your debt is coming down nicely and will be gone before you know it.
Hopefully your chairs will be with you soon.
I presume none of your neighbours are hairdressers / barbers (assuming yours is shoulder length and above normally)?
You could get a mobile hairdresser out and have it done in the garden then wash your hair / clothes / shower straight after?
Or maybe watch a few tub3 videos and see if DD could do some form of temporary bob?
(Mine is constantly in a ponytail, I'm contemplating hacking it off as I'm about 6 months overdue for mine; I've only had it done once a year due to saving.)Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.2 -
Thanks MF - I do have a mobile contact but she is shielding her DH. I'm sure I will resolve something.
Well today had another huge disappointment. The pensions transfer co have refused my case. They don't have to give a reason. I am sooo frustrated and gutted. I have already paid to get a new pension valuation too. May try again when that comes. I think this is potentially a good time to invest - but know when I was looking in January - most companies didn't want to touch me until I was 55 or close to it so not sure I will be able to find anyone that will. I know they are trying to protect me - but I would rather take the risk.
