Hi just looking for some info
I was claiming income support & child tax.
Me and my ex are trying to work things out
I live with my parents and he has his own place. so i have contacted income support to tell them and I had to send a form back off with his information on and money as been stopped l. Waiting to hear back (Don't think I will be entitled to any thing tho as i think it will be classed as a couple? that I would expect )not sure tho and my adviser wasn't very clear about things today either. child tax told me that nothing would change on there part untill we move in together.
Just wondering as he has asked if I would like to stay over for the night with the kids, but unsure of the rules so would rather know before hand so I'm not doing any thing that would get me into trouble.

Are you married?
I ask because the rules are different from cohabiting couples.
It's a rather grey area, and subject to judgements by the DWP / HMRC / Tribunals; but here are some guides:

https://www.advicenow.org.uk/guides/survival-guide-benefits-and-living-together
You will note that the rules for Living together as husband and wife apply to the DWP as well as HMRC for Tax Credits.Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.0 -
No we are not married but have 2 children together.
After speaking to income support they said they would have to send a form out so I could fill in my partners details so I'm assuming we will be classed as a couple even tho we ain't living together that I understand as although I will only be seeing him sat and Sunday and still do all are things separately we are still a couple. When I explained to child tax that me and my partner are trying to work things out but still live separately she told me nothing would change unless we move in together. So I have had different answers off the both so don't really know the situation and my adviser today said she didn't know but must inform them if we do move in (witch I would do when the time comes) so I'm abit confused about the whole thing. That's why I would rather know if I could spend the night at his before I do0 -

I apologise for this post because it has noting to do with the main post. I simply want to be able to make a post and am unable to do so. I keep asking the support team of this forum website and they keep ignoring me. I am getting tired of being treated like scum by this website and it's users just because I am working class with special needs.
So please could somebody actually talk to me for once in my miserable waste of a space life and tell me why I can not make any post on here. All i can do is reply to posts.
Thank you. By the way i have registered and activated my account and done everything I should do.0 -
I am not sure but you might have to make a few replies before you can start a new thread.
If it is any consolation I have been a member since 2005 and just tried to change my e mail address on the site. I can't log in or post as the real me and have had to use a different version of my name. I sent several e mails asking for help and got zilch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Previously the forum team was very helpful but recently a lot of long running and helpful threads have just vanished and the place is a mess.0 -

Who has treated you in this way? If you look just above the list of threads on any board it says in red "new thread" click on that to start a new thread. If you have any problems then you can PM me or any of the board guides on here, you can also report any post using the "report" button. If you contact mse it can take some time to get a reply as they are a small team and very busy.0 -

There is a very good reason for this we have been under "attack" from spammers for a period and the malicious use of the spam button, things should start to settle down in the coming weeks.0 -

There appears to be a lot of newbies putting their "New Thread" post on existing threads because they cannot start their own thread. They can only reply to an existing thread...and only then if they quote someone else.
Mind you, it obviously is not affecting all newbies..we have a new thread on the board "Housing Benefit and PIP" started by a newbie

It does not sound like it is being managed very well...
This is off topic so I am going to go to site feedback to see what is being discussed there.0 -
Told them that me and my children's father are trying to work things out but for the time being we ain't committing into moving back in with each other yet as if I do make this decision then I would have to move my child to another school so want to make sure things are going to work out before I do make that decision. Think it was called an AT form where i had to give my partners details. (Asuming it's to make a joint claim as tho we are not living together im not single) told them we will be seeing each other at weekends with our children. but child tax said they can't do anything as I'm not living with him. Confused by it all as how can I be classed as a couple with the one then not with the other? Really confuses as I'm explaining the same thing to any one I talk to and they keep giving me different answers0

See bolded.
Did you read Alice's link and click on the guide?
I am not sure what you have told Income Support and whether you have informed them that the father of your children has his own place. Did you?
It is a common misunderstanding that you cannot allow someone to stay overnight with you and still be classed as single. You can.
The test is whether you are a couple in the sense that you live together, share finances, etc etc.
From what you describe you are not a couple for Income support purposes.
You have already been told by tax credits that they will want to know when/if you move in together.
Please make sure that the DWP knows that he has his own place, you do not share finances (other than the child support he gives you). You may have to produce evidence of this - his tenancy agreement, your bank statements. Have the DWP asked for any of this evidence?0
