Should we get tough?

I have just been watching the debate in the HoC.
MP after MP stood up and spoke against the PPCs, Gladstones and BWL, were particularly singled out. There was a lot of anger there.
I firmly believe that the writing is on the wall, I see Gladstones BWL, the IAS. and the IPC, all going out of business in the near future, I see a properly regulated appeals system, greater scrutiny by the DVLA, and more MPs and newspapers taking up the cudgels.
Should we not therefore beef up our advice, inform all OPs of the way the wind is blowing and encourage them to involve Trading Standards and their MPs in the process.
What do others think?

You never know how far you can go until you go too far.

I would like to here a "laymans" version on the BBC/press so that the 99% of people that get tickets and do not use MSE/peppipoo are more informed of the situationSave a Rachael

But what do you think of my suggestion? You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0

I think MPs should be informed more of the dodgy practices of these firms. Trading Standards always strike me as a bit toothless in practice.0

The word you are looking for is underfunded ... add in any service the government provides. That's why they are keen on self-regulation. It's cost free. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Trading Standards Departments are massively underfunded. Many LAs consider Diversity Co-ordinators to be far more essential than Trading Standards Officers. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0

Indeed. It seems to have got worse in recent years, I get the impression they are a significant victim of austerity measures.0 -
I totally agree
Let's face it, apart from the rubbish debt collectors
attempting to suck blood nothing else happens until
the Dracula's, as one MP put it, go into action
The main ones being Gladstones and BWlegal who have
now been highlighted by the MP's
This is something that the SRA can no longer ignore
and therefore a constant flow of complaints about
these two will be in order.
Trading Standards can be referenced to the second
reading and what MP's have said
We can make a decision on IELegal and SCSLaw as and
when they come in
Wright Hassall would be well advised to stop pimping
out their letterheads under the scam name of ZZPS
and stay clear of being a Dracula.0 -
I think The Deep has a good point ...
we have pushed people to write to there MP's re this bill , and encouraged poster to submit to 'Which' ....
so we should now consider the best way forward ....
the pressure needs to be kept on ...
pound to a penny that there will lots of vested interest lobbying of MP's during the committee stages ...
just like the lobbying that took place pre poofa ....
good day though

We certainly need to keep up the lobbying all year, urging all victims to join in.
You can bet your bottom dollar that the PPCs and their ATA apologists will be doing the same.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Very true but I think they’ve been found out. Watching the debate today was eye opening. MP’s on all sides clearly had the BPA’s number. I think it helped one of them had an own space ticket.
It does look like the writings on the wall.0
