they don't realise that I work for me rather than them...

I don't want to infect anyone, I just feel like the punitive sickness system they have forces me into this

I'm more a danger when I'm driving tired after a long shift, but again I have no real choice

You do realise you are coming across as me! me! me!

But you told us you dont work for them, you work for you - so why are you worried so much?

Why wont you tell us what your illness is?

You've hinted at some sort of autoimmune illness?

I'm assuming your point is your medication reduces your immune system therefore you're more prone to colds and flus?

It would be an awful lot easier to advise if we knew what the underlying illness was?

If you look at the OP's posting history you will see he enjoys starting provocative threads. Here's just one with a different point of view on employment practices.

Ebenezer scrooge was a job creator, providing work that his employees otherwise wouldn't have elsewhere - otherwise they'd go elsewhere, they weren't forced to stay
And, in order to be rich he must've made his customers happy. The products he provided would've added competition and therefore kept inflation lower than it otherwise would've been, in a supply side way.

Yes he scrimped, but in doing so his business would've been able to grow faster, creating more jobs and supplying more customers. His pursuit of wealth wasn't pointless, it was wholly beneficial to society.

He could've been less miserable and he might've lacked motivational leadership skills, but I think he's misunderstood and society was richer for having him

I usually wear a monocle anyway, I like the fashion

Elsien - a less paid role isn't really a choice, we couldn't afford it
If that post doesn't scream troll.... Come on now, it was initially believable, but it's descended into mystery illnesses and monocles. That bridge must be getting packed now.

I have a genuine auto immune disorder and I work damn hard at keeping it under control. If I "powered through" flu I'd be out for months recovering.

Staying healthy is important to my income and security so I work with my medical support to keep stable. Nothing you have written suggests you have "staying healthy" as the priority you should with a serious remiitiing relapsing condition.

I don't believe this tale, I find it disrespectful to actual ill people, and I think there are better places on the internet for random debate. Maybe move over to Reddit.

If you have a genuine, non-theoretical situation you'd like to give enough information about for people to give real help, do please give that detail.

Sometimes I have just powered through work with flu

No you did not. A bad cold floors people. With flu you would not have got out of bed.

People these days do not understand how much a bad cold can do so call everything flu.

Wholly the same type of scenario (and the same view on it) as my wife. Shes had rheumatoid arthritis since she was 35 and is heavily medicated for it, along with heavy doses of painkillers - and thats just to get her through a normal day. I expect your illness means similar.

Like you, she works hard to control it, and shes had to start adapting her lifestyle to cope - and worse may be to come.

Colds and flus can totally knock her off her feet for weeks but she works on prevention and maintaining a good level of health and wellbeing to minimise the downtime.

She has been up front with her employer and combined with the fact shes very good at what she does, means her employer has been more than supportive. Occasionally she works from home if the pain is too great but thats a rarity.

Nothing of what the O/P has told us suggests hes anywhere like in this position.

Motorguy- if I told you the illnesses you potentially could figure out my employer, like if I told you I had radiation poisoning

Frankly, i think thats nonsense. You're just being evasive because it suits you to.

It would be nigh on impossible to work out who you employer was just because of your illness.
