There is always a choice. Mine would be not to risk my own life and that of others by not driving when I was too tired to do so safely. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I don't want to infect anyone, I just feel like the punitive sickness system they have forces me into this

With 4 absences (I assume within a 12 month period) in a lot of places you would be a lot further along the process than a stage 1.0 -
Richard - 3 of the times I was sent home, and all relating to my condition that I can't control (at least until my recent steroids) - it wasn't me taking advantage. They decided not to impose stage 1 on me in the meeting because of the condition and my doctors letters, but I had to fend off redeployment.
Once my eye got all swollen because I got steroid cream in it, my manager was a bit freaked out, I couldn't open it, but drove home with one eye.
Other years I sometimes have none at all
I have to drive even if tired, I don't have the luxury of choice.
Also the wife kicks me out the house if I'm sick, luckily last time my parents let me stay there otherwise I'd have to sleep in the carThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
So they have been more lenient than they needed to be, taking into account your condition?
Sounds like a OK employer.0 -
I do think you are still missing the point slightly.
Whether they send you home, or you are not well enough to go in, it's still sickness. And however genuine it is, the point will come where the company decides it's not manageable for them any more. As they have every right to do.
You have been offered redeployment. Instead you have chosen to carry on in a role which you've previously said makes your illness worse and are driving when you quite possibly shouldn't be.
So yes you do have a choice. You have the choice of a safer (albeit less well paid) role. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I am sympathetic to those ill, but if I knew you I would be reporting you to the DVLA for driving when unfit, if you seriously drive with only one eye, without any period of adaptation.
(I am not lobbying for one-eyed drivers to be banned. They will have learnt accommodation to their loss of depth and distance vision. I am pointing out that those who suddenly lose the sight in one eye, or the ability to use one eye, should not be driving as they have NOT made this adjustment.

I usually wear a monocle anyway, I like the fashion
Elsien - a less paid role isn't really a choice, we couldn't afford itThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Richard - I like my management, just I think their policy is a bit inflexible for good workers with conditions, but I suppose they did use their discretion
I'm just paranoid because I rely on the job for 95% of my income at the moment
I almost got someone else's sickness on my record the other day - someone with a similar name, but this was on one of my natural days offThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

But you told us you dont work for them, you work for you - so why are you worried so much?
Why wont you tell us what your illness is?
You've hinted at some sort of autoimmune illness?
I'm assuming your point is your medication reduces your immune system therefore you're more prone to colds and flus?
It would be an awful lot easier to advise if we knew what the underlying illness was?0 -
Motorguy- if I told you the illnesses you potentially could figure out my employer, like if I told you I had radiation poisoningThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
