Fedex Paid VAT when none was due

I've just received a Final notice from FEDEX and am seriously stressed,
I purchased some books from the USA and it is my understanding that books are VAT and DUTY free. However, Premiere Collectables failed to label the package as books and so FEDEX coded it as VAT chargeable. I have argued this but have been told by FEDEX that because the sender made a mistake I am Liable. Is there anything I can do ?

Nothing to do with fedex. You need to take this up with Premiere Collectable.0

Thanks for the input but it's not Premier that are threatening me. I have reached out to PC and they say they are trying to deal with the issue Via their FEDEX agent but have not received a reply from the FEDEX agent in two weeks, I have chased them up several times over this period and am awaiting their reply.0

Irrelevant.
PC made a mistake. Fedex did not.
Fedex didnt charge the VAT, HMRC did. Fedex paid for you, as instructed, as PC had made a mistake.
Fedex have done nothing wrong. In your shoes, I would be asking PC to pay me the amount to cover the customs fee, and then telling them they can then chase Fedex for it back once they sort out their mess.0 -
Totally agree, and am just writing another Email to PC to request they pay the invoice. Sadly I don't hold much hope they will be eagre to do so. Thank you.0

I know you can have it adjusted if the incorrect amount was applied (even if it was due to an error of the sender) but usually that is just the tax element and you still have to pay the handling fee.
It usually involves sending the packaging it arrived in along with proof of price paid to HMRC @ mount pleasant but contact HMRC to be sure. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Thank you for your input, I am aware of the appeal process for incorrect HMRC charges and the messing about isn't really worth it as HMRC is only half of the charge and I cannot recoup the clearance fee levied by FEDEX as you said. Just so frustrating that FEDEX can ruin my credit rating because someone else made a mistake and I have no choice but to pay the charge. And though the charge is only around £30 the principal of it is heavy.0

Its not fedex!
They did nothing wrong. They cannot 'not' pay the charge, they had no choice.
They should not be out money for someone elses mistake. Pay it, and let PC sort it out.
The only person allowing this to potentially affect your credit at the moment is you.0 -
chargeback , you have been overcharged for delivery , price quoted was "x" , it is now "y" , due to being packaged incorrectlySave a Rachael

And under which reason code would that fall? Chargeback can only be used in limited circumstances and I don't believe this is one of them. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Hey marliepanda no offence but, Do you work for FEDEX ? You seem very keen to stand by their actions, I never entered into any contract with them nor did I give them my permission to pay HMRC on my behalf yet they threaten me. I have contacted them directing them to deal with the people that entered into a contract with them yet the ignore my Emails and progressed action against me prematurely I receive a letter one week ago stating I had ten days to deal with the payment but only a week later I receive a Final notice Even though they are supposed to pause any action whilst the charge is in question. They are little more than extortionists bullying the innocent here.0
