This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
It feels really cold this morning, at least that is January over, and the nights are starting to draw out which makes me think that at least spring is on the way.
I went to bed early last night and slept through until 5.00am which is good for me, so don’t feel too bad even though I’ve been up a while.
I hope that everything goes as well as these things can today JackieO. I’m sure that you will all give Frank a good send off.
Sorry to hear that you have had some bad news about your friend Cranky.
Judi I do hope that your oh is coping. It must have been a terrible thing to witness and it does unsurprisingly sound like he is very shaken up.
The trip to the hairdressers was ok, and the cut is fine. That’s twice I’ve had her now and it has been fine, so I won’t feel so anxious about having it cut next time.
Having had a trip out yesterday and a nice meal at my brother’s house yesterday evening before he brought me back home, I will be staying closer to home today.
I did some batch cooking for the freezers yesterday. A couple of portions of a chicken and mushroom casserole and a lamb one. I want to put a chicken curry in the slow cooker shortly and then I think I will have enough HM ready meals prepared. Dinner today will be a portion of the curry, nice and warming for this weather.
I’m going to go and make some more tea, in the hope that it will warm me up.
Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Morning everyone
Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly, he has college today.
Still dark but dry and cold.
Dinner last night was smoked sausage and mushroom pasta with a breaded chicken portion for the menfolk, this was reshuffled from Monday night. I remembered to get sausages out to defrost overnight, so tonight we'll be having full english, egg, bacon, sausages, black pud, fried new pots, mushrooms and beans.
Yesterday work was another busy one, with me on the receiving end of abuse within 5 minutes of opening the door, although this was from someone who has dementia and they returned a little while later to apologise.
So on to today -
First thing this morning, I'm going into town to visit the bank and building society, then going straight to mum and dad's to sit with mum so dad can go out to do some jobs, hoping it's only going to take the morning but we'll see, if he needs longer he needs longer, I'll see what he wants to do about the food shopping too, otherwise he may need me to go back tomorrow. I'm working Saturday morning so need to get as much done as possible today and tomorrow.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. It looked almost light outside when I woke as the sky was still bright with the super moon shining brightly and every star twinkling away. It shows up the frost though and it feels very chilly.
Just caught up on last night's posts and KARCHER I was so sorry to read about your upset yesterday. When someone has upset me like that I am the same. I can't just shrug it off and forget about it. I keep dwelling on it and worrying about it. Some people can be so nasty and I don't know what they get from it.
JACKIE I hope Frank's funeral goes as it should as he was a well loved man and deserves a good send off.
It's shopping day today so a trip to Aldi to fit in. Freezers still jammed so mainly f & v, bread and fridge stuff. All my soup making has depleted my veg stocks!
After much dithering and postponing the decision as to whether we stay here and adapt it when the time comes, or move to a one level property, we have talked ourselves into staying. First priority though is a new kitchen so we are off eyeing them up today to get some ideas. They can't be very grand ideas though as it's not a big kitchen sadly!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, carers, sad, worried or lonely. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all and thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.
I've had a broken night's sleep and have woken with a headache which is unusual for me so I'm going to ignore it until it goes away.
Got lots done by working at home yesterday and today is a busy day at the office but the last day of the week for me.
JackieO I hope today goes as well as it can, especially for Margaret. Your lovely supportive family will help her through, I'm sure.
Karcher, I'm the same, I find it hard not to brood on it when someone is unpleasant to me, no matter how much I can rationalise it.
I must get ready for the day, it is cold though looks quite bright. Last night's moon was spectacular.
Hope everyone has as good a day as possible.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all
Jackie O I hope it goes as well as it can today and dear Frank gets a good send off xx
Mrs TA do you have an Ikea near you ? if so its worth going for a wander around the kitchen departments, they have some great ideas for kitchens and you don't have to buy from them just get ideas xx
No rain here atm :j hopefully it will be a bright day for a change. We have the sausage and mash from last night tonight as I went to put the sausages in the oven only to find then in the freezer, so we now have them tonight.
Evie is going for her haircut this morning she is looking a bit shaggy and her hair is growing over her eyes, she looks so lovely once she is done.
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It was actually light enough to watch Steve's bus get in last night so I am happy too that Spring is on it's way. It has been such a miserable Winter and I long to see the back of it.
Becky did not have a very good day yesterday. She got ready for school and even left the house but was back after a few minutes as she didn't feel she could do it. We will try again on Friday. I was a bad friend yesterday as well as I completely forgot that I had arranged to go over and see my best friend and I got a sad phone call along the lines of where are you? I have rearranged for Friday and will get there this time.
JackieO, I hope Frank gets a great send off and Margaret feels supported x
I am drinking my cup of tea and then going back to bed as I had a rubbish nights sleep. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Brrrrr! Chilly here too! Glad I remembered to put home office heater on timer last night! WFH today to try & clear some work without interruption.... Let's see. How that goes.
DW who's loaded with cold- car (the "motorised skip" we call it! ) is in for MOT - so hoping it holds on for another year!
Also, best to make myself scarce from work today, as there's an atmosphere as I'm arguing with the powers that be about pay. Ouch.
Trying to remember how lucky I am !
If DW is expecting a treat lunch, she'll be dissapointed- as CC bill just landed!
Frugal soup for lunch and will be compliling old garden mags to donate to a lady who runs a community garden - last time she paid a fiver for them - but I can't in all conscience charge this time!
May make a buy/swap/ sell list and or freegle list!

I posted this on yesterday's thread, but just in case anyone misses it...

Morning All,
Welcome to February. Only 11 months to go till the end of this horrible year. Horrible because of having to sell moms house, to pay the care home fees, also because she lived there so long.
Hopefully when I have sorted out selling moms house, I will get a bit of quality time with her.
Not much planned for today - work. I have a bag of items for the charity shop - I am having a clear out so I can keep some of moms things.
Thinking of you today JackieO.

Good morning all,
Just a quick one from me, sorry. The HT's options evening went well - it has confirmed that he has made the right choices. I'm off out to help a friend with her uni assignment today. Two heads are better than one and all that....
JackieO thinking of Margaret and your family today
Karcher it's hard ignoring the nutters that you come across but try. In the meantime have a hug.
Now I have to go and change the dressing on my leg before getting dressed and doing the school run. Take care all of you0
