    I had a plumber come by today and fix the issue. For those interested, the issue was the electrode connecting the pilot light with the ignition was broken.

    I don't follow that at all. OP said that there was no issue with the hot water, so how can this fault be ignition related? Everything points to a sticking divertor valve, blocked heat exchanger, or a sludged up CH circuit. Just for once, a powerflush might actually be beneficial.
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    I agree with macman very strange cure when your hot water was fine but there it is boilers can be strange sometimes.
