Landlord wants to take my name off the council tax

I would spill everything, the LL deserves everything they get, why should law abiding Landlords' who pay higher interest for BTL, subsides these fraudulent people?"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Why on earth would you even consider this?
Everybody loathes rogue landlords, they are one of the worst kinds of parasite - they prey on the most vulnerable and disadvantaged in our society.
I would be reporting him to everyone I could think of - HMRC, Local Council, Benefits Agency etc etc
Either way you will probably need to find a new flat!0 -
Why do you need to ask what to do? Isn't it blindingly obvious. Let the council know what he is proposing, make plans to move and if you get any post (inc bank stuff) write 'return to sender, landlord doesn't live here' on the front.0

If the council tax is in his sister's name then it will soon get spotted when you and your flatmate register to vote. It's done by councils and I wouldn't be surprised if they cross check the voter register with their council tax records to ensure everyone at a property is declared. In which case what is your landlord going to do next, demand you take yourself off the electoral register too?"You won't bloom until you're planted" - Graffiti spotted in Newcastle.

100% do not agree to this. Blatantly obvious to anyone that the LL is renting the property out but telling his mortgage provider that it's a residential mortgage. Continue to pay the council tax in your name... and look for another place to live at the earliest opportunity.0

Spend £3 with land registry & get name, address of owner (hope it's who you expect) and name of lender.

Then write to lender sending copy of tenancy and any other incriminating evidence of this crook being on the fiddle.
I 'ates crooks, be they tenant, landlord, agent, MP...0 -
In your position I would say to LL that you know he is being investigated by the bank (presumably, by his actions, he knows they are onto him) and you're sure he'll understand that you don't wish to get involved. Worst case, he'll serve you notice... the fact is, once the bank get him you'll have to be out of there anyway.0

It is sensible to look to leave to avoid all of this. Once you have left, I would have no hesitation in telling his mortgage company what he is up to and reporting him to HMRC as it is highly likely that his income is being declared.
People evading taxes and responsibilities like this are a drain on society in general.0 -
I'd cooperate with the bank, it seems likely they'll be your new LL soon!0

It's great being a landord on this forum. Such warmth, understanding.... and cake.0
