Thanks mole rat for your message, but I'm a little confused.
If i have a picture of the reading i took when I moved in and a picture of the meter today.
Then what has or hasn't been read in between is of little consequence right??
    Or maybe im wrong?
That meter has recorded that usage, for the time I've been at that property. So whether it was March to Dec 2016 or anytime since.

I don't see how anyone misreading in between could be an issue??

At some point that 35000kwh spike has happened.

I would definitely query this with gas supplier, we have a 1950s three bed semi, with no cavity insulation (loft insulation only) and a ~20+ year old boiler, kids have 2 baths a day and we have showers so use above average hot water, and keep the house pretty warm and our annual Gas usage is 14000kwh pretty consistently, so for a flat to use significantly more than that seems very suspicious indeed.

I understood in cases like this, the energy companies have a way of calculating typical usage and if its vastly different, they will change the meter and bill you for the typical usage for that type of dwelling.

OP - have a read of this:

Do you have a 'Eurometers/Siemens E6' meter in your home? There are at least 1.6 million of these in the UK and if you have one you may want to check your bills very closely.

These Eurometers – and, to a lesser degree, the Siemens model – soon developed serious faults in service. These meters have been found to "record gas that was not being used".
It's always good to check your bill, give your energy provider regular readings on your meter and if you have one of these meters and the bill seems much higher than you imagined it could be you can always get in touch with us - fuelpovertyaction@gmail.com

The code F either means that the meter has failed or there is a battery issue. You need to contact your supplier with details. I suggest sending in a photograph.

    Thanks for your responses guys.
I'm so close to just paying up and closing the matter cos I'm sick of it, but I can't do it. I still feel like there's something that hasn't been explored. I have actually read that article about the siemens meters. thanks for reminding me. Whats so annoying is that no one at edf will admit that useage seems ridiculously high...they just say...well that's what the meter says. pay up

    cheers all

Interesting. this is what I've been pushing them to do.

    What gives you that understanding?

If it were me, I would still risk a small sum of money to get the meter checked. If it is found faulty, then the supplier will re-calculate your usage. There are unlikely to do so just on the basis that a consumer doesn't agree with the usage figure (after ruling out such things as cubic metres versus cubic feet errors)

Notice we never get the meter readings we ask for.
