What was that reading ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Divide the kWh by the meter units, 11 = metric, 32 = imperial.
calculation comes to 11.2
so metric0 -
What was that reading. And just because they say they took a reading does not mean the reader actually did !
march 2016 my read 12724
dec 28 2016 their read 16054
considering the current read is 16991 that useage has been recorded. Be it between march and dec 2016 or after. I don't really dispute that that wasn't an accurate second reading.
What I struggle to believe or understand is anyway that could've recorded such a dramatic amount0 -
The time to query the read was back in Dec 2016 when you received the bill, 2 minutes spent comparing the meter to the bill. Mis-reads are not uncommon.
You need to take daily reads for a week or so just to prove the meter is not doing something silly like using 1 unit when you have the heating on all day. You also need to submit monthly reads to your supplier. Keeps you on top of your usage and gives you some evidence if things do go wrong. And check the figures on every bill you receive.0 -
You could have potentially misread the meter when you first moved in and the reading could have started 15 and not 12, which would be more in line with the readings taken by EDF in 2016 and the current reading.
This will of course be very difficult to prove unless you took photos of the meters when you first moved in and still have these.0 -

I agree this is the most likely scenario. If so the reading should have bounced as it would have been checked against the final reading given by the previous occupier - but if they never gave one .............
Have you the bills from Edf going back to day 1 - ? (Perhaps online downloads ?) Are any of these based on actual meter readings ? If not you are going to be able to prove anything.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Yeah all readings are legit. I have photos from when I moved in. It's 12.
I'm not disputing the readings.
I'm really trying to find out, in theory, what could've caused this kind of usage.
For example. Is it even possible for a double glazed, 1 bedroom flat to use that much in that time period?? Like if the heating was on constantly?
Or am I most likely looking at a boiler fault?
If these seem unlikely, What else could it be??
I'm just trying to solve the mystery

The most likely explanation is a misread. Taking one reading out of context when you have no data to compare leads to all sorts of outlandish thoughts. Going forward you need to read your meter regularly, as I said earlier, daily for a couple of weeks then weekly then monthly. This will give you an idea of what you are really using and will put the whole March 2016 to today readings into context.0

Hi,
I gave them a reading when I moved in March 4th 2016 of 12966.
I gave them one today 31 Jan 2018 of 16991
Looking at the whole of the 23 months and assuming all the readings are accurate then, as has been said, the consumption is approx 45,000 kwh.
This would have been high for a flat unoccupied during the day but you have a young baby and that entails keeping the flat warm, baths and meals etc for your wife.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
