Huge gas spike useage
Hi,
I've been in dispute for some time now with EDF.
Basically the meter reads are saying I used 35000kwh of gas from March 2016 - end of Dec 2016
so 10 months. I live in a one bed, double glazed flat with my mrs and 16 month old baby, The heating wouldn't have come on before end of Sept, So water and gas cooker and heating in patches form Sept and that has used 35000kwh of gas.
Id just like to know any possible ideas you may have for this useage?
everything seems to be working fine now. the recent reading have been ok.
could the meter have had a fault that has only reared its head once?
could the boiler have had an issue?
is there any other way this could've happened?? The manager at edf mentioned something about the boiler constantly heating the thermostat or something.
even if we had the heating on constantly, could this have happened?
any info from gas experts, ex industry types would be very welcome.
someone suggested before I could've been paying off the previous tenant but the meter reading i gave when i moved in suggests this huge useage is since we've been resident.
Also we have a siemens e6 meter which I've read can be faulty. after all the number on the digital display there is the letter F. does that mean anything? should i get a meter inspection and risk paying 80£? or is a meter fault unlikely if its now recording correctly?
thank you very much.

Are both the start and end meter reads Actual or Estimated ?0

Hi,
I gave them a reading when I moved in March 4th 2016 of 12966.
I gave them one today 31 Jan 2018 of 169910 -
Is your meter metric (m3) or imperial (ft3) and does your bill say metric or imperial
More questions- was your Dec 2016 reading Estimated or Actual. Have you been providing meter readings at least every monthNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Are your dates correct?
04/03/2016 - 31/01/2018 = 23 months give or take a few days. Your 1st post says 10 months.3.795 kWp Solar PV System. Capital of the Wolds0 -
i believe the meter is metric. has an M3 to the right of the digi display.
I cannot see anything on my bill that to my eye is telling me metric or imperial0 -
The F is for low battery, you need to contact your supplier and they will either replace the battery or the meter.
What reading was the Dec 2016 bill based on.
The figures you supplied above should equal around 45000 kWh so either the last bill was based on an estimate or the conversion factor was wrong. Give us the number of units used and the kWh from that bill.0 -
ah thanks for that regarding the F.0
-
just having a look through my bills to give you accurate replies. one mo. cheers0

Dec 2016 was based on their reading they took.
I tried to post link to image of bill but I'm not allowed0
