D&G AO.com Plan

Hi everyone, been a reader of these forums for years, but finally I actually need to pose a question.
I bought a couple of appliances from AO.com, and got the cover plans - they were quoted cheap enough.
However fast forward a few months, to today, and I have been reviewing my finances, and decided actually i might cancel them anyway, but irrelevant of this, i noticed something much much more alarming.
They have been charging me vastly more(relatively speaking) than quoted at the time.
I should point out both purchases were separate, almost 1 month apart.
The first item is correctly billed at 3.49/m - that is until you account for the second item.
I noticed the second payment going out of 4.99, which is completely wrong.
I categorically remember them saying i can have a separate plan, (never bothered to get a price on that) or the cheaper option was to add it to the first plan, increasing that to 4.99 to cover both. I should point out a clarified but asking and confirming that my total was only increasing by 1.50, which seemed like a good deal, so I went OK - thinking if i change my mind, no big deal, can cancel.
So the problem now is that they have been taking 8.48/m for what was clearly quoted at 4.99 total.
I tried to contact D&G about it and they told me to speak to AO
I tried to contact AO about it and they told me to speak to D&G

Did you not receive any paperwork either by email or post giving details of payments and your direct debit guarantee?0

I did get emails - and i fairness i should probably have read them more thoroughly, but being busy moving into the new house(no excuse i know) i just skimmed over them to check the price was as quoted, rather than checking if the 4.99 was indeed combined as clearly quoted or not - as has occurred.0
