Terrible nights sleep last night,I was in too much pain to sleep and the wind was so bad I thought my roof was going to come off, I solved the pain eventually after taking ibuprofen, paracetamol and codeine which didn't do a lot to be honest so I took a herbal sleeping tablet and covered my legs in Pernaton gel ( which I didn't realise I had 🙄) eventually I fell asleep. I did get up at 4 am to check to see if the chicken coop and run was still upright and thankfully it was ok, it's tucked into a corner and it's quite sheltered under the trees so that helps and there is a bank on one side so only half of it is exposed. Honestly I don't mind bad weather but the wind last night frightened me, my roof sounded like it was going to blow off and I could hear the fascia boards rattling 🙀

Today I did the usual of walking B but we had to go to the shop so DD came and we went along the river to give her a nice walk, I won't go on my own down there anymore because over the last few weeks there have been several attempted dog snatches 😟 I don't know what's going on with my area ,it used to be lovely but lately has not been very nice, some one was stabbed down on the river the other night just down the road from my house and then we have had the police divers in there looking for evidence from a murder of a woman that took place in the city centre a few months ago 😟

When we got back I sorted the chickens then I had a little trip into the loft which I could have done without. DD heard scrabbling sounds coming from there in the morning so I went up to see if I could spot anything, I made a hell of a racket getting the ladder down though so anything up there would have run off. I turned the light out and sat up there in the dark for about 10 minutes to see if I could hear anything but there was nothing
The only thing I did notice later when I let B out into the garden was that the tree that is growing outside the house was blowing in the wind and it's branches were scratching against the brickwork so I don't know if it was that that she could hear.I am going out to chop the top off it when the weather calms down

We have also been visited by the rodent in the pet food cupboard again, Bs bag of dog food had a hole chewed in the corner so we ordered plastic containers today which are meant to be rodent proof, I really don't want to resort to poison because there are too many cats around and several pairs of Tawny owls and I would never forgive myself if I poisoned any of them. I've worked out where it's getting in and I'm hopeful that when the kitchen floor is replaced it will solve the problem

I am back at work tomorrow so I'm praying for a good nights sleep tonight, the wind is already howling round the house though so I'm not hopeful

In our area they have appointed a specialist police person in charge of dog theft, so it’s not just your area. Some not very nice people around at the moment unfortunately 🤬 I hope you get a decent nights sleep tonight, sweet dreams 🛌

Unfortunately I think it's nationwide SA, I'm not sure how proactive our police force are being about it, the would be thieves are cowards though because they are only targeting women

I think the dognappings are happening all over and that a lot of people are using the lockdown as an excuse for being anti-social and in some cases down right wicked 😡 on the other hand it is bringing a lot of good out into the open too. It’s such a shame it’s stopping you going to where you want with B 😡. That said I walk along our river with dh but won’t go down there on my own.....
I hope you get a better nights sleep and have a good day at work tomorrow.

This whole situation has brought out the worst and best in different people. My city is only small and is a lovely place to live but at the moment it doesn't feel the same as it used to. The last time I went into town it was quite scary walking down the high street there are benches all the way down spaced out and each one had a different group of drunk people gathered round it shouting and arguing with each other and falling about the place, it's like they have taken over, there are no police to be seen anywhere either. I'm hoping once lockdown ends and more people are out and about it will go back to normal. I have to wait in the high street for my bus tomorrow night and it's just full of drunk or drugged up people staggering round, I hate coming home from work at the moment

I can relate to the benches with drunks and druggies - our shopping street that used to be lovely is the same. We now have a lovely Morrison’s around the corner from me but it’s taken the heart out of the old shops which has been pedestrianised and the people that hang about on the benches is scary. I rarely go there now.

The last time I went into our city centre it appeared to be full of low lives. I saw two blokes arguing, they looked pretty out of it. Where have they all come from, it never used to be like this?

I expect that some of the many people already living chaotic & difficult lives have found their issues have significantly worsened during the pandemic. They probably won't have been able to access much of their support network such as maintaining any positive family ties, mental health groups, addiction services, etc, but still have full access to alcohol from supermarkets. Meanwhile, I'm sure the local drug dealing network has been only too happy to step in.
There is going to be a lot more than a damaged economy & a mountain of plastic waste to deal with once this is over.

I couldn't agree more. Great post. Our town is experiencing the same. Increased crime, alcohol and drug abuse, dog theft, vandalism.
