I had this problem a couple of years ago. I couldn't gain online access. I eventually rang HMRC and they posted them to me.

I do my own accounts and tax returns so no accountant to ask.
  • As a tax person (however a corporate one - I don't do personal tax) I can't see why it wouldn't be simple for your accountant to access the HMRC online system as your agent and pull off the data. I don't think it is that different to the login I have to access the returns I file for corporate clients. I can't file for any company where I'm not appointed the agent, and if I'm the agent I can see all historic years.

That said, today is a really bad day to ask! Wait until tomorrow or Friday and you may find them more amenable.

(Corporates don't have a 31 January deadline so everyone thinks I must be super-busy today but really I have plenty of time to waste on MSE!)

For self assessment you have to register through the Government Gateway and then get a password sent by post from HMRC

    I have changed my accountant

‘As explained previously, we do not have individual client login, rather are registered as an agent, therefore allows us to file only and not to access individual records, as we do not require this facility.
However, I have requested a login yesterday which will be sent to you by post, or if you cannot wait so long, then kindly ring HMRC and request them to post to you.
We are unable to furnish you with any more information on the matter.’

This is the information they sent me. I think they have registered themselves as an agent rather than my official accountant. Which is strange that’s why they can’t access the system. It’s either that or they are telling lies. Anyway, he’s been changed as of today. Until then I guess the bank has to wait 2 weeks for the statements. I don’t see any other way. I can access the hmrc but it saysi can’t view anything on there to do with self assessment.

The valuation of the house was carried out today. Not sure how this will affect everything.
  • They will be registered as agent as they will be acting on behalf of more clients than just yourself, this allows the accountant to log in and be able to access all client information access to file returns etc from one access point, it would take forever to access individual client data by inputting each and everyones references every time!
and yes today is the wrong day to be asking for such information, the tax return submissions are a priority over anything else at the moment.
Do you not have your own copies of previous years accounts you can present to the bank? records are kept on clients files but you should have your own copies too?

With all due respect I pay him just like everyone else does. And if what you are saying is true then there is no need for him to lie about it As for copies I have all those. I have the sa013 but it’s the tax overviews which the bank requires something I don’t have.

I've never known an Accountant be able to produce a Tax Calculation (SA302 substitute) and not a Tax Year Overview to accompany it.

The only time there's a problem is when someone leaves filing and paying until today, then the TYO can't be downloaded until the tax payment has cleared their account.

You can file on 6 April and not pay until 31 January.

The Tax Calculation is about the return, the TYO is about the payment.
