Exactly! In our house it was my Dad who was the cook so every bloomin night we had tatties with something!!
Mind you, I wish I could have another plate of them with him....
(((Hugs)))
And you got me too! The occasional lapse into the chippy on the way home isn't going to derail you and being away from home I think occasionally allowing yourself a treat is no bad thing. The exception with potatoes is maybe new potatoes, which are nice boiled, if you whack
quite a lot of melted butter on them afterwards :rotfl:
You're right Cathy Bird, Jersey Royals are something to be anticipated with glee every year. I got out of the habit of putting butter on mine years ago, thank goodness, but OH reaches for the butter dish the minute they're on the table. (I reach for the salt.)
Welcome back, Maman!
It worked Pollyanna! Well done you on finding a way past the cravings - they do subside after 20 minutes but that 20 minutes are most people's downfall. I heartily agree about distraction, and I think it's why the idea of giving oneself permission to drink in the future helps so many of us through them. I probably don't see myself as having a dry very old age if I live that long; somewhere in the old folks home of my dreams I'm having a sneaky not-so-little sherry before lunch. Or a G&T. It's a long way off, but I'm rather looking forward to it.

Felt like drinking when I got in last night, but I said to myself if I felt like drinking after a cup of tea, then I would just have some. As life is too short.
I still felt like some after the tea, but instead of having wine, opened a can of fizzy orange and said if I still felt like wine after the fizzy drink, I would open the bottle after I put the kids to bed.
And I didn't. Because the craving had pretty much gone and what is the point in opening a bottle of wine after 8.45pm when I could just do without?
So I think I will try this strategy most days. That way it doesn't feel like I'm depriving myself. More like distracting myself and if the distractions don't work, then have a drink.
I'm up to 13 including today. Counting today early as I'm on a fast day.
on that note you had to be added to the success list well done you and have one of our famous dancing monkeys :j:j:j0 -

Totally agree with Pollyanna's solution. I had a rubbish day yesterday and got told my job application wasn't being taken any further because I didn't have recent experience in a certain area, which was really frustrating as it was all clearly stated on my CV. I was sooo tempted to have a drink before dinner, but I put it off and had some ginger beer (nasty cheap stuff I tried from L1dl, won't be buying that again - i like mine fiery!). By the time I had dinner ready and eaten the craving had subsided to such a level I could ignore it. It would have been so easy to start drinking.
Tonight will be a different matter - another stressful day with an interview that could have been really good or really bad, I totally have no idea whatsoever! I feel exhausted, but i did get another potential opportunity pop up this afternoon which has cheered me up a bit. What goes around comes around.....I hope!0 -

Same here arkers.:D
What's particularly pleased me was that I did it deliberately when usually any weekend AF days are because I'm driving or late home from somewhere.
Having been in the West Country for 3 days and avoided all pasties and cream teas;), I did have fish and chips and wine to wash them down so decided I didn't need more calories last night.:) OK, so my reasoning was typically shallow but it still counts!
14/10 AFDs please Baileys.
Hoping for one more on Monday.0
