Cutting Down Alcohol Thread

Sorry, I've been away from here for soooo long, I feel bad. I went away on November for 3 weeks which involved copious amounts of alcohol and went straight through Christmas to NYE.
I had already thought about doing Dry January, unofficially, but eventually posted it on FB and committed and set up a fund raising page for Cancer Research UK, which I am proud to say has raised £86 so far. Some of my friends were doing it and most of them have caved in already, but I am proud to say I have stayed with it and I think it is getting a teeny bit easier. I've said this before when doing dry Jan, but I will say it again and hope that I stick to it this time.....After the end of this month I want to put more thought into when I have a drink, so I can cut down. I am lacking an off switch even on school nights
I might be late to the party for this month, but can you please add me in for 31 and I will of course be doing the school night and weekend challenges until the end of the month. I am currently at 17/17 for JanWhat goes around comes around.....I hope!0 -

Finally this week something I have been hoping for when cutting down alcohol has happened!!!!!:T
I was always aware when drinking that I wasted the evenings, as soon as I poured a glass when making food, the night was then wasted as I relaxed and slobbed out. But now after 3 1/2 months of cutting down I am now finally starting to use evenings constructively. By this I mean those where I am not out doing something and would have just slobbed in front of the TV previously. This week I am now planning in shopping nights, painting, dyeing my hair (the greys were on a takeover bid!) etc. Just the stuff I should have been doing in the evenings in the last few years.
For me drink didn't physically debilitate me, I haven't felt healthier since giving up (if I am honest as I never had hangovers), in fact my sleep is worse without it. But I was aware of all the lost hours in my life that were spent in a chilled but unproductive way.
And that is now going to be my incentive to minimise its impact on my life going forward. That and the fact that although I didn't feel physically worse with it in my life, I always felt my dependence was too high on the habit and it couldn't be doing my body any good for the erst of my life.
It had to change and I am so glad it did.0 -
Well done GK!
How's the building project going? What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -
