  • I failed the SNC. I drank last night. Stupid me. And didn't only have the bottle of prosecco, but also the half bottle of white wine in the fridge. That's always been my problem. Limiting. I'm okay when I just make the decision to not drink at all.

I feel tired today (to be expected) and I'm not fasting (on 5:2), but I am still determined to go out for my run after work as long as it's not lashing down.

As annoyed as I am with myself, dusting myself down and moving on. I won't drink tonight.

I'm also annoyed as I really look forward to my Friday and Saturday evenings of drinking and now I feel that I've ruined it for myself. There's nothing to look forward to now and it won't taste as nice!

    Morning!

25/26 today and 5/5 SNC as definitely won't be drinking tonight!

Tomorrow might not be a drinking day after all as the wee man has been loaded with the cold past few nights and if he's not right by tomorrow we won't be going out.

Tomorrow is the last day this year that our favourite Indian restaurant does a pre-theatre set menu (£9.95 and the food is outstanding) as they are al-a-carte only in December, so we were hoping to avail of it while we still had a chance!
You can have results or excuses, but not both.

    22 please Shaggy.
Lost count over the last few days, but looked at my app and it's actually more than I posted yesterday!

It's true some people have set ambitious targets (which is great) but I think we all relate to targets in different ways - some like to aim really high to spur themselves on, but others (me included) like to set more moderate targets we know we can beat. If you only want to do 5 AFDs a month, that's fantastic - any AFDs are better than none. I wouldn't like to think people weren't taking on the challenges just because they want to set smaller targets. It's all good, you know?

Also, one thing I have observed over the past three or so years I've been on this thread is that the people who set lower targets are often the ones who stick to it over time. Not always :), but quite often the people who disappear really quickly are the ones who set really high targets for a month or two, or however long, then they vanish, so they've either failed and lost heart or they've got fed up because it's not sustainable, it's too much. Meanwhile others who set lower targets are often the ones who are still around, even the ones who are a bit uneven and kind of come and go. It seems to me it's better to set a modest target that's realistic. Anyway, just thinking aloud really.

I wish I'd joined and set myself a realistic target of 4 AF days a month - that would have been a heck of an achievement for me, and I could have built from that. But no ... I was too embarrassed to admit I drank every single day. The trouble with that for me was that it esculated before I realised what was happening, and by the time I did, I was well and truly drinking too much.

It saddens me that occasionally someone posts two or three times, setting themselves a really tough target and then disappears.

Lild have a mulled wine without the alcohol that tastes really nice. I think it is great. x

Hmm. I like mulled wine, so I think I might check that out. Thanks for the tip.

    Sorry about the job, AnnieG.
    My run is ended.

Made it from Sept 1st until Nov 24th alcohol free but meg up with some friends to watch the rugby and had more than a few beers. As always, regretted it in the morning and still 2 days after that.

That was still a heck of a run, Billy! Well done on making it that far and please stick around and keep posting. (Hope the head feels better by now, too.)

I totally agree with you Maman in your post about what works is what people should do, not what some didactic tw*t thinks they should impose on everyone. Not a fan of authoritarian regimes.

Thanks for your concern, those that missed me. I'm fine, just very, very busy and the longer I leave this thread, the more there is to read which is lovely, and when things are hectic that's one of the things I can safely put off until I get enough time to settle down and do so properly. I have a dog snoring on the end of the bed and a cat on my lap, so all's well with the world. I think December is the toughest possible month to be sensible about booze, and while I don't think anyone should go teetotal unless they really, really want to and can steel themselves for a few weeks because it's tough, I'm terribly relieved I don't have to worry about drinking too much any more. It's not that the idea of a glass of red wine or a G&T doesn't appeal, it's just that after four years, four months and four days (I think), I don't want to go back to being that person who was reckless, rude and regretful most of the time. Good luck with whatever targets everyone sets for themselves, not just for December, but 2019 as well. As I said above, four days a month would have been a brilliant idea for me, I was just too cowardly to sign up for it.

    29/30 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.

PS HB hope you don’t mind me stalking you!

Not a bit! That facility is there for a reason and we've all found it a bit useful at some point. Lovely, lovely Keeping Up Appearances used to refer to it as 'light stalking' which has an attractive ring to it, I always think!

That's the thing, Honey Bear, I think people do build up from the smaller targets over time, if they want to - once you learn you can do AFDs, and it's not so terrifying to have a day without alcohol, you can really move forward.

15/14 and 4 SNC - very pleased with myself and looking forward to a glass or two tonight. It’s been a long time since I met a challenge. If I could just keep to 4 days AF or more and 2/3 days drinking that would be ok I think, especially as not going mad on the days I am drinking.
I’d like to do 4 SNC for 3/12/18 onwards too.
  • Wise words as always HB

Another grilling on 'why you not drinking? What's going on?' last night, which was irritating but I managed it ok.

Xmas is a tricky time for drinking, I've given myself a few days' leeway but am thinking it would be much easier to not drink at all.

30/25 and 5/5 for me today please Shaggy :).

Work continues to be stressful and I didn't sleep well last night. Need to get my head in a better place with it all. Several of my lovely colleagues are under the cosh as well, and it's hard to see without being able to do much to help :(.
